Glad to talk with everyone. I found 3 patterns for a purse, but deciding how I want to make it. I want it stronger, so I originally thought of nylon thread, but can't find a good pattern. I wonder if I could use a pattern for worsted yarn, and use nylon thread? I want to make a lining for it, with 2 big pockets and a small one for keys and such.

Keep Smilin'! A good laugh- for any reason- will do anyone good!
I found another pattern for a purse made with nylon thread, but I'd want it bigger. This will take some math. The price isn't cheap for nylon thread, but the durability will be good.
Mary, what about using a strand of worsted and a strand of nylon? That would give the worsted the strength you want or a strand of cotton with the worsted might work tool
The heat wave broke for a few days and I started an afghan. Heat is suppose to come back so I may have to switch to a small project if I'm able to yarn at all.
I went to an awesome LYS event here. I'll wait to tell you when I'm at a spot that is more comfy. Going to a craft fair today. Going to scout it out in preparation for the one I'm doing in Oct.
Take care, Linda
We finally got rain!!!!!!! It started Thursday night and went through Friday. It cooled down considerably and everything smells "good" again.
I finished up a pair of socks for my youngest daughter. She has been waiting for them for awhile because I was in "baby mode" getting things made for my friend's baby shower. I had enough yarn leftover from the socks to start a shawlette so I cast on for 198 yards of Heaven. The original pattern (found on Ravelry) is for aran or worsted weight yarn, but that seemed a bit bulky for me for a shawlette, so I decided to experiment with sock weight yarn. We'll see what happens.
Linda - You are a brave girl starting an afghan in the middle of summer.
Mary - Hope you find a purse/bag pattern you like soon.
Have a great weekend.

Linda: I was just thinking about the one strand of worsted and one strand of nylon!!! You read my mind!
I have been thinking about the liner too. If I make the purse bigger, I'll have to use more fabric and one zipper at the top won't do it, because if the purse is more wide, it will have 2 separate pockets and they each need their own zipper. I will put 2 pockets on the outside for little "quick" things, because the purse I like now has pockets on the outside, and they are so convenient- should be very easy to do.
I need to go to a craft fair in September, then try to get in one when I find out the prices. I've never been in one before, but I have many things to sell.
Happy birthday Jeanette. I hope you have a ncie day!!!!
Have a great day Jeanette!
I may have to put that purse project "on hold" for a bit, because I wore that white crocheted hat at church yesterday, and a lady wants me to make one for her. I asked her to call me and we could go to the store and pick out the color she wants. I started with a basic wide-brimmed hat pattern, but modified it because I used nylon thread instead of a soft yarn. I also put wire in the brim and around the head to keep it's shape after I starched it. I just don't know what to charge her for it. I haven't seen prices for crocheted items in so long, so I don't know what they are even asking now.
Hello everyone. The afghan is for the days when the heat breaks and during the heat waves if I knit at all I work on small projects.
Mary, trying to determine prices is the hard part, and it can even vary from one place to another. At the craft fair I went to on Sat. I saw the generic dishcloths range in price from $1.25 to $3.00 for the same style!
Had to literally sit in the lake again yesterday to get relief. Today is suppose to be better. Take care. Linda
Hope you had a great birthday, Jeanette!! Linda
Hello everyone
Thanks so much for the birthday wishes. I worked and then went to help serve supper at bible school. It was a good day though.
I am so mad at myself. My sister was home over the weekend and wanted the new little miss that arrives this Thursday to have her new dress, bonnet and blanket so sent it home with my sister to Minneapolis and forgot to take pictures. My hope is to get a picture of the new little miss in the dress to share with you guys.
I was looking through patterns trying to find a new pattern to make and also a dress pattern to make for my granddaughters at Christmas. One that ranges in size from 2 to 4. I also sorted out some patterns that I printed that I wonder now what I was thinking at the time. My husband was glad to see some go to the recycle sack.
Everyone have a good day. We are still in the heat here in Iowa and very very dry. Jeanette
Jeanette: guess the weather is the same as here in Missouri- hot and dry. It is supposed to be around 105 today, but may get back into the 90's tomorrow (it's funny to say "back into the 90's")
My husband's birthday is today, but he said he doesn't want anything. Guys just don't want cards and gifts like women, I guess.
I'm working on that shawl while finding patterns for Christmas gifts. The shawl will take longer than I thought because each "shell" takes a while to make, and I need 100 on a row, and about 10 rows, plus stitching it all together.
Mary, hubby and I both have summer birthdays, June & July, and at this point we just go buy what we want so gift giving gets difficult. As a compromise to mark the occasion this year we decided to give gifts of chocolate in whatever form we choose, worked for us !
I'm seeing my niece this next week-end so I'm in speed mode whipping up preemie hats. Got 2 done yesterday, I'm enjoying striping them in the bits and pieces leftovers.
We have had rain several times this week and the temps have been more comfortable. Have spent a little bit of time with the baby afghan. The color combination isn't turning out quite as I'd hoped, it's certainly different. Have a good week-end all. Linda
Hi
Mary I hope your weather has cooled off. Iowa sure has. Alot of areas around us got rain on Wednesday night but not our area. At least it is not so warm.
I have been leaving work at 4:30 and going right to bible school. We serve them supper at 5:30 and then they have bible school from 6-8pm. It is all the churchs in the town which is 5 going together. Lot of churches for a town of 558 people. Anyway by the time I get home at 7:15 I am done in. I did start a new dress for a shower for my new great neice who arrived on Wednesday.
Linda glad you got rain and your temps cooled. Hello to anyone else who stops in. Jeanette
