Indulgence no longer has to feel guilty. Go ahead, treat yourself!
Good morning everyone,
Just a quick start, this morning. It's been very, very hot here, as it has been for so many of us. Thunder storms expected off and on all evening. Yesterday's humidity was so uncomfortable... it is usually high in the summer, but it was opressive, yesterday.
I think Lusi has already left for her flight back home. It would be nice if there would be some pleasant weather in the forecast for her, while she's here. Wishing her a safe and comfortable flight.
I hope everyone will have a nice weekend. I'll be back to check yesterday's post and chat with everyone a little later.
Please take care. God bless,
Jo Ann
Good morning friends,
It’s going to be another hot and humid day for us too.
I took Mo for a little walk early this morning.
I’m going to my DSIL’s birthday party this afternoon. I certainly hope they are having it inside.
Verna I noticed a very nice note Debbie wrote to Flora on Facebook. Did you see it?
I need to go shopping for a few groceries this morning so will not try to chat to everyone now.
Have a nice day Shirley
Good morning everyone looks like Lusi is going to hit HOT weather after all there predicting 100º to 102º Monday and Tuesday. We had thunderstorms off and on yesterday but not much rain at all had tornado warnings out over the area PatA might have gotten some really bad weather last night I hope she reports in today. Courtney and 2 of her friends plus the 2 dogs were in are bathroom for about a half hour during the tornado warning (safest place in the house), tried telling them it was about 20 miles South of use but the one girl kept showing me her cell phone telling of the warning so we just left them there DW finally drew them out with hot pizza now who could resist that. LOL
Verna you should have been here for breakfast this morning I made an omelet with Pepper Jack cheese and Cholula hot sauce in it boy was it good.
Might try and help neighbor take down 12X12 overhead door today in his Butler building he wants to make it into a solid wall felt pretty good on my walk this morning so will give it a try already told him if it gets to hot I'm done.
DW has been doing pretty good tell yesterday she cut her thumb when de-boning a chicken for supper cut wasn't to bad but she sure did bleed a lot finally got it stopped with 3 bandages and a little pressure in the right spot.
Have a nice day and God bless everyone prayers going out to all that need it.
Viny
Shirley, you made it sound sooo good to be doing those pool exercises with your noodle. What good exercise that is too.... I miss not using a pool... used to love it. Have fun at the birthday party today.... I hope it's inside for you too.
Viny, it's nice to hear that you're feeling fit and are active again, although it doesn't matter how fit yo are when the heat hits later in the day..... it's time to take it easy in the AC, then. Sounds like a pretty bad cut on Pat's finger... it's more dangerous to cut yourself when cleaning chicken than just cutting yourself. I just heard that on the news because of the bacteria salmonela in the chicken. Was it always that way.. I don't remember hearing about any of that when we were growing up. I think our food supply was much less contaminated and much safer back then..... maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that way, doesn't it. Your tree burning incident yesterday, could have been pretty dangerous with that wind coming up... so glad you were able to manage keeping that safe.
Jo Lynn, how did the custom made stand for the washer and dryer work out? How lucky you are to have someone able to make it for you. I have the store bought stands under mine and at first wondered if I would ever use them, but do. I don't store anything in them, except for the shoe rack under the dryer, but I do pull out the drawer and sit my basket on top of it to load and unload... very nice height doing it that way. Have you ever found out what to bring for the 4th? Since we'll be at the Clinic the whole day before the 4th, Dsis asked me to just make a cheese and fruit tray, which I can do ahead of time with no problems.
Barb, were you able to take advantage of your Kohl's coupon? Hope you found something special to use it on. I loved the pictures of Landen in his strawberry garden... he sure is getting big and what a handsome little guy he is..... good looking strawberry, too. No wonder he's so happy about what he planted.
Vammie, how did the shredding go yesterday? I need a new shredder and think I'll get one of the cross shredders this time. Is that the kind you have?
I hope you were able to catch up on your rest yesterday....
Marti, glad you were able to get the cleaning lady there, it must make you feel good to have it done. She must have been expensive, but luckily you won't have to get her often. It's difficult to get someone who does a good job, and since she spent so much time there, it sounds like she didn't miss anytihng.
Now, don't you wonder why anyone would chose to use your trash cans to put their junk into? How inconsiderate. So glad you have someone to take care of that for you.
Maureen, I'm with you when it comes to this heat. If I could start all over and chose a place to live, I think I would like it where Barb is too... I like the sound of her temperatures and the whole area sounds so beautiful.
I haven't been feeling too well and DH asked if I wanted to go out for breakfast this morning... I hate to turn him down, but don't think that would be a good thing to do today. I've been staying on light and bland stuff for a couple of days and think it would be better to have breakfast at home.... I guess he understands, but still feel bad about turning him down. We'll see how the day goes, and maybe go out tomorrow. I know he enjoys it.
It looks like the rain, from this mornig has passed and the sun is coming out now... Hope it doesn't get as steamy and humid as it did yesterday... till later.....
Good morning. It's 69*, cloudy/sunny and calm. Wonderful. I'm lovin' it. I hope it stays this way for awhile.
Maureen, come on. You can live with me. We still have 3 travel trailers sitting out here. Shoot, we could have a giant camp out.
Viny, I'm surprised that you can stil burn . There is a burn ban here, starting tomorrow. I don't think I can even use my burn barrel. Glad you are feeling better. Sorry about Pat's cut. DD did that one time when she was in High school. She was supposed to be peeling apples but the little artist in her couldn't resist so she was actually cutting them into people's faces. When she cut herself, I thought we'd never get it to stop bleeding. I wanted to take her to the ER but DH thought I was being silly so I didn't. The next day I took her to the Dr. on the excuse that she might need a tetanus shot. The Dr. said she should have had stitches and I think he actually did stitch it up, if I remember right.
Jo Ann, sorry you aren't feeling good. I've been having some tummy issues for the last couple days but I have no idea why. I guess it's the nature of my disease. That and the TN is flaring again. I was trying to wean myself off the meds. and I was doing pretty good. Just down to the kind of ache and weird feeling. I even managed to get to only one pill a day....but then it started the sharp, ice pick kind of pains again so better start back on 3 pills and then try to cut back after it's under control again. This is a very strange thing. Dr. says these nerve pains are bad and do some strange things.
Verna, I hope your caregiver will get herself straightened out. The last thing you need is to start searching for another one.
Shirley, I'm so glad you have a pool you can use. That is such good exercise for you. I miss having the big one we had in the yard but it was just too much work for the amount of use it got. When the girls were small, they were here all the time using it.
H. is here now. She is going to work at the cafe again today. She is too young to actually work so all she can do is wash dishes but when she turns 14 they can hire her. This restaurant is just down the street from us. It's actually a little hamburger place. They are putting new siding on it now that looks like logs. I was hoping they'd be able to build a little covered deck there too because just by putting that siding on they will increase their business. As it is, there is no place to sit when they are busy . There may be some restrictions though because it is right in the path of the planes coming into the airport. The airport tried to buy them out a few years ago and even offered to move their business but they wouldn't do it. They do a really good business there and are supposed to have the best burgers in town. Since I rarely eat fried foods, I cannot be the judge of that. I did work there for a year when we first moved back here though.
Marti, good to see your post. I know you are probably bored to tears but you have to get healed up so you can be ready to come here in Sept.
Luanne is on her way. Wishing her safe travels.
Jo Lynn, I know you are busy with Brody today. What fun ! I picked up a couple things for L. yesterday. DH stopped at the Sal. Army Family store. I love to go there and look for "treasures". I got him a big truck that carries all of his hot wheel cars. Oh and a Spider man movie. He has a little box that I call his Treasure Box. I gave it to him a long time ago and he always puts stuff in it. Anything, paper clips , rocks, marbles, whatever. But, he also expects to find a cookie or candy or something edible in there. It's the first thing he goes for when he comes in the door. So this time I put his movie on top of the box.
I did get a couple things at Kohl's but have to admit, I'm not fond of the styles I find there. I found a purse and then as I was leaving, I saw a blouse/shirt that didn't look all wrinkled up so grabbed that. Didn't even try it on because DH was waiting at the car. He had actually parked right by my cousin and she had come out of the store so they were out there talking. She lives in that area. We wanted to take her to lunch but she was on her way to Bingo.
Well, I must go to town and get some milk and whatever.
I'll check back later. Barb
Good Morning! Another hot one, but so far not as hot as Verna and Marti. And another fire, this one not very far. A little southwest of here in a rural town of Herriman. Mostly 5 acre or more parcels with lots of farm animals. Probably about 10 to 15 minutes from here. Poor people lost 2 homes within minutes of it starting. A car sitting in sheep grass caught fire and it spread so quickly. We were over on the east side of town and could see the smoke when we came out of WinCo. Speaking of WinCo, they have the Tillamook ice cream and also another one from Oregon, Oompqua ice cream which is made in southern Oregon. One of them had caramel butter pecan, which is a step better than DH’s favorite butter pecan.
I’m so confused today, I thought it was Sunday and couldn’t figure out so few posts for the weekend. Just a little crazy!
Wow, that picture doesn’t look real. Maybe Jo Lynn can tell us what she thinks the different greens are.
Shirley, at least you got out early this morning with Mo. That’s about the best you can do.
Wonder if Lusi made it there yet. Not good news, Viny, about the weather. I’m with that 1 girl, I’d stay in the bathroom too. 20 miles is too close for me.
I’m sorry for Pat and her cut finger. So easy to do and bleeds like crazy.
Jo Ann, I do store some products down in the stands under the washer and dryer. But I have so much room, why aren’t I storing more? Then I’d probably forget where something is.
On the shredder, you only want a cross shredder.
On where to live, I’d even like it where I lived before. It was dry in the summer and it was amazing how it could cool down so well at night. It could make a 40 degree swing with ease. I’ve had to have the air on here at night probably more than any other summer in 18 yrs.
Know what you mean about disappointing the man about breakfast. Mine enjoys that meal out too.
Barb, if you sent the picture via email, I didn’t get it. Can you resend?
We’ve already been outside setting up waters and are both now in. I think even this weather is getting to DH. It’s no fun with the wind and the heat. But my garden is like Viny’s in that the tomatoes are doing great and the potatoes too. Everything else is so-so. But I do have butternut squash plants, in fact, those are the best and the cukes and pumpkins are finally doing ok, after much reseeding and babying. Kim is 1 up on me as far as her peppers go.
Editing to see if Jo Ann is interested in being Mrs. Holiday for TOH? It's up in the right hand corner and I also saw something in our local paper.
Be back later……..
It looks like we are headed for another record breaking date with the heat today, yesterday broke records set in the late 1800's and today is to be worse. When DS called me late yesterday it was 109º in Atlanta and we weren't far behind. Maybe it's a good thing I'm staying inside.Maureen, sorry to hear fires are in your area now, I've not heard from my Dsis this week, so I don't know where they are with the fires in Co. I do know they were smelling the smoke earlier this week. So sad to see the news and so many fires burning. One night this week there were 20 small fires in our area and they determined they were all set, I don't understand anyone who would do this knowing the what destruction a fire caused. I think I had tons of bell peppers, friends will go out about once a week and pull overgrown cucumbers, squash, zucchini. This hot weather will probably burn all the plants and this will probably be the end of my garden
Lusi, I hope the weather cools early in the week so you can enjoy your stay with your DM
Barb, thanks for sharing the pictures of L, he's so cute and his hair is beautiful, going to break some girls heart with that hair and those beautiful eyesVerna, I can't believe we are hotter than you areViny, I'm sure the heat is ruining all the gardens all over the country. I'm glad you are still walking, I'm wondering if my walking is over, depressed me to think about that.So sorry to hear about Pat's hand, I was cutting a steak on July 4th about 3 years ago, ended up in the ER with tetanus shot and stitches. It's so easy to cut yourself when you are doing meat.A friend from church just came by with meatloaf and pasta salad so I know what I'll have for evening meal. My friends have been so good to see that I have food, I hope that someday, I can do something to repay all these people who have done so much for me.Just wanted to wish all of you a wonderful Holiday weekend. just won't address everyone, not easy to sit here when one foot can't go on the floor.
Hello everyone. Late today because it was toe day. Jeri came here and did my toenails then we went out for lunch. Tried a new (to me) Mexican restaurant and it was quite good except for being loud due to high ceilings. Very hard to have a conversation.
Marti...you have nothing to repay for your friends' helping you. You've helped others for years. Just sit back and be thankful that they're there. And how nice to not have to worry about cooking. It's always nice to have OPC...Other People's Cooking.
Before we left for lunch, Jeri discovered a small wasps' nest right outside the patio door to the sunroom. When we got back I called Barb's son to ask him to come spray it....it was at an angle that I couldn't do from inside without risking getting some live critters in the house. They just left and I feel better knowing that Molly can go outside without me worrying about the wasps. Of course Molly was glad to see them...extra treats for her!
Viny, keep a close eye on Pat's injury....watch for any redness and swelling. Do you have a styptic pencil there? I'm sure you know what that is....if not, it's a stick that you apply (mostly to razor nicks) and it stops the bleeding instantly. They are very inexpensive and can be found in any drugstore or WalMart.....about the size of a crayon. And one will last all your life. My dad always had one in his medicine cabinet.
Maureen, are you in any danger of the fires that are close? That is just so scary...
Lusi...hope you are having a good trip...is the flight about 12 hours? Do you fly direct from Helsinki or layover somewhere in Europe? Into O'Hare? I guess I want to know the route! Hope you're able to check in occasionally.
Shirley...it was good chatting with you yesterday...I needed that!
Can't remember what anyone else has said so I'll go tend the laundry. I'll peek in later.
vammie
Pat, sorry you had all those winds. DH turned on the PGA tournament in Maryland and they had a huge amount of downed and broken trees on the course. The said there were 80 mph winds. No spectators were being allowed on the course today since they had lots of the cut trees over where they would normally be.
Verna, I like to think no danger for us from fires. We are flat here, much like any city. We have these retention ponds in many parts of the city, but they keep those green and grasses cut. The canals are all around but they burn the weeds on the side before the season starts. My main problem is the neighbor across the street who lets his pasture go to dry weeds and they are 3 to 4 ft tall. The lady from the city usually is on top of it and gives him a time limit, but either I haven't seen her yet or if she's come, he hasn't followed through. So will make her aware of the situation on Monday. He does have a young man (30'ish) living there, so I'm sure he could do the job. Last year they hired someone who had a big machine that looked like a lawnmower but is to cut brush and weeds. I think the guy is crazy not to get a handle on it early since the pasture is on the side of him and even goes around behind the backyard. That could involve quite a few homes if it got going. We're across the street but not straight across from the pasture. In the paper this morning, they were saying the worst plants are junipers when it comes to what is so combustible. We have none of those.
Back to inside work, just too hot to do anything outside. I told DH we sure aren't working too hard with this hot weather. But that's a good thing. Oh, I did get the biopsy report on the polyps. Thankfully, all were ok. Barb, that tells you I had some (4). Have to return in 3 yrs. I couldn't figure out what was taking so long to get the report. With each day passing, I got a little more concerned. Hate that waiting.
We cooled off during the night. Today's high is forecast in the low 90s, so it should be just a little more comfortable than it has been the last week or so. DH and I are going to the Niel Diamond concert tonight. ODS and DDIL got us tickets, way back at Christmas time. July seemed so far away and suddenly it's actually here.
We went to Tom's last night for his campfire cookout. He had hot dogs, smoors and hobo pies...... simple, but a big hit with everyone, especially the kids.... He has a creek running along the back of his property and I don't know if its the water being there or not, but he gets thousands and thousands of fireflies late at night. They start out in the yard and end up in the trees lining the creek. It looks like a light show..... just beautiful........ with literally thousands of tiny lights sparkling in the trees... it reminded me of when we were kids and there were so many fireflies. We get very few in our yards anymore so it was nice to see them again, the way we remember them.
Viny, with your treeline across the back of your property, I wondered if you get lots of fireflies, too.
Barb, sorry you are having tummy issues. About the TN, unfortunately, my experience has been that it is cronic.... seems to go away and you realize you aren't feeling the pain or the pressure anymore and think that's it, only to have it return. It's always being physically over tired, stress and/or wind or a stiff breeze on that side of my face that seems to trigger it for me. Before long, you'll probably be able to figure out what triggers a flare up for you.
Maureen, that fire sounds pretty close to you. I would have to keeping an eye on how close it's getting and keep everything wet and watered down.... I hope your neighbor hurries and gets someone to cut down those dried and very flamable weeds around his house.
We've had our AC on day and night for about the last whole week, here, partly because of the heat, but also because of the humidity. Some summers it's just on all the time. Electric bills go way, way up then. I got a good chuckle out of your "edit", I absolutely do not/could not....... want to be Mrs Holiday for TOH, that's not me anymore. I've cut back so much for the holidays, my family probably have forgotten what home made Christmas cookies are like. lol
Marti, so good to hear that your neighbors are taking such good care of you. I'm sure you've prepaid them for all they do for you.... with all of the considerate and kind things you've always done for everyone. It will be nice when Randy is feeling better and come for a visit. Do you think he'll be there for the 4th?
Pat, that was some violent weather you had.... Sorry about all the branches down and all the clean up you have now... that will take some time. Glad your house wasn't hit by anything.
You might be right about our being more aware of food safety issues because of all the recalls on products and news coverage.... it's true, we never used to hear about any of that.
Vammie, it's a good thing you discovered the wasp nest before any got into the house. Once the nest gets really big, and it doesn't take long..... it's a lot more difficult to get rid of them.
Jo Lynn, I'm sure you're busy with Brody... what a fun weekend for you and for Brody.... he must be such fun to spend time with... I miss having any little grandchildren to baby sit....
I wonder if Lusi is at her Mom's yet.... hope she had a safe and comfortable flight.
Planning an early dinner so I'm not rushing to clean up the kitchen before leaving for the concert.... It will probably be the best thing for us, but to be honest, I'm not in the mood for going, but I feel "obligated" to go..... whew! Have to fight this down mood. I have to say, Tom is doing really well.. he entertained last night....he looks like he doesn't have a care in the world (while he's panting for air).. this morning, he texted me a picture of him and his neighbor out at the fire pit, making a big cast iron skillet of bacon.... probably eggs to follow... He's doing much better than I am and I hope and pray his positive attitude will end up proving him right about the clinic finding a way to cure what he has.........
Keeping you all in my thoughts, and prayers being said for you and your special intentions, always.
God bless,
Good morning everyone not much going on here had the whole family over for a swim party last night lots of fun and felt so good after working on that overhead door project got it down and new wall built will finish it later today.
I did my walking this morning but was soaking wet when I got back temp. not to bad but the humidity is really high had breakfast of ham and cheese wrapped around celery sticks feeling really good again.
Did some weeding in the garden late last night got 1 nice zucchini a couple of beets for supper tonight and 1 string bean now what can you do with 1 string bean?
Jo Ann so glad you had a good time at Toms and glad to see he is thinking positive on his problems and yes we have 1000 of firefly’s that we can watch from the patio like you said a light show in the trees. One problem we have with it being so dry is black wasps around the pool looking for water but DS sprayed yesterday so know one got into any trouble.
Good morning,
Hope everyone is doing well today. Jo Ann, did I thank you for the sweet phone call? I have been busy, or trying to stay busy. My DGD and I washed 7 windows, (inside), and put up new blinds and curtains. That took a little while. I put up darkening blinds on the West side of the house. I think it will help the a.c. keep things cooler.
Marti, I hope you are doing well today. I hate to admit that I lost the e-mail Vin sent for the weather bulletin. Not going to ask him again. By the way, Vin, I hope your Pat's cut is ok. I know it will be sore. And, glad that you are feeling much better.
Lusi, hope your travel's are safe. I will be more than happy to pay for the phone case. You are sweet to do that for us.
Shirley, How is your WW going? Sounded like you are doing ok. I am trying to eat better. Staying away from white foods. Just started last Mon. so we will see. I did buy some of the Atkins bars, with low carbs, for emergencie's. So far, have only eaten one of them. As for the back and leg problem, I am trying vitamin's??? Maybe it won't hurt. Well, actually they might be supplement's. One is Glucasomine Sulfate.I am going to a foot dr. on the 18th.
The fires were about 8 miles from my DGS, and his family. He said the interstate should help keep them from getting closer to them. Some of his buddies had to evacuate.
Can't wait to see little Braylon. Just not sure when I will make it over that way. Just want to get everything organized first. And, week after next will be the kids second Bible school. They love that one, and this will be the 6th year they have attended. I don't have to cook for that one though. There are a lot more that attend's that one.Only about 25 or 30 at ours. Barb, surely hope you are feeling better. I did not get an e-mail so couldn't see the pictures of L. I bet he is a cutie pie.
Verna, you stay so busy. I think of you often and admire you so much. Like I told you with all the baking and stuff.
Well, I am ready for Church. Hope I didn't miss anyone, love you all. Take care and stay cool for all of you that have high temp. Ours has been downright hot too.
Love and best wishes, Carolyn
Carolyn, you really are getting lots done. Your house must look so good. Our windows need cleaned from the winter, and here it is the middle of summer and we haven't done them yet. One more thing on the to do list....
Viny, swim party sounds like it was fun, and what a way to cool off. Glad to hear you're feeling well again.
I tried to take a picture with my cell phone, last night of the fireflies in the trees, but it didn't come through, so looked for something like it on Google..... this is close, but, of course.... flickering....... so pretty.
Good morning everyone.....already steamy out there.
I slept in again.....felt so good. I'm sad that I missed church but going there this afternoon for a patriotic concert. I'm taking my new caregiver with me...she loves music and this should be great...the local symphony orchestra, the church choir and the local choir (Voices of Flower Mound). Afterwards....it's off to Noodleswing....I'm already excited about that!
Just finished reading the paper from cover to cover and need to fix a bite of lunch. Then back here to the office to continue cleaning and shredded...and Jo Ann, mine IS a cross cut shredder....if I don't burn it up! I think I'm going to designate a box for things to be shredded and see if I end up with enough to take to a commercial shredder....that way I won't burn mine out.
Does anyone have any special plans for the 4th? I don't. Just stay in and keep cool. My AC has been on continuously since April and will likely be that way until mid October. I think it's cooling more efficiently since putting in the additional insulation in the attic.
OK...got to go find food.....this will be a hodge podge meal....cauliflower/broccoli salad, cottage cheese, avocado, maybe some hummus (I really like that stuff!!) and who knows what else.
I'll peek in later.
PS Viny, your breakfast offering sounds delicious!!
