Indulgence no longer has to feel guilty. Go ahead, treat yourself!
FESTIVAL OF FLOWERS, SC.....
Good morning everyone,
Sorry... I lost my whole post this morning (it was my own fault.... didn't put the header and date in grrrr ) and now have to get ready to leave. I want to go with Tom this morning, for his lung doctor appmt... I hope we hear something encouraging.....
Will catch up with all of the later posts from yesterday once I'm back... Hope everyone will have a nice Friday.
God bless,
Jo Ann
Good morning all.
JoAnn, beautiful picture today, makes me want to jump in the water. I hope you hear good news at the doctor.
I slept in this morning, woke up when DH got home at 7am. I hung out 2 big loads of laundry and now have to fix my hair, go to the cleaners and to the tan place for a spray. We are going out tonight to Coopers Hawk with DH's cousin and her DH for our retirements. I won't order what I got last time as the filet medallions were disappointing.
It's already hot and sticky today. DH is outside washing the cars. No chance of rain ruining it! LOL
Will try to stop in later but if not have a good weekend.
Have a good day, Sue
Good morning everyone... Another nice day here. We should get up to about 82 and then tomorrow its back up into the 90s for a few days.
Our P.E.O. group is having our annual yard sale tomorrow (at the Community Yard Sales). I am going over today to take my stuff over (about 1/2 a pickup load) and help set up. I helped Monday night with some pricing and sorting and with helping today, I shouldn't have to go over tomorrow and help. That leaves the weekend free to get some things done around here before dd comes and also if dh and I want to do something, we can.
LOL, Verna, I didn't know if anyone would catch my comment about my sisters, or not. I'm glad you liked the idea of a cookbook exchange. I'm all for it!
Jo Ann ~ Here's hoping and praying that all goes well today and that Tom gets positive news.
Sue ~ I had to laugh when you mentioned Jack's cooking capabilities. Dh is pretty good to help in the kitchen - he'll do the chopping; but, not to my liking so I don't usually ask him to do that. He does ALL the barbequing (I don't even know how to turn the bbq on) and, of course, he does all the smoking on his Traeger. Anyway, your story about Jack reminded me of dh's dad. When my mother-in-law was going to be gone at noon, she would put the can of soup in the pan in the fridge (along with a glass of milk) and leave very explicit instructions on how to heat up the soup! She would also have his bowl, spoon, and crackers out on the table ready for him! Now, this is the same guy that now does all the canning and pickling! He didn't start doing that until about 20 years ago (in his early 70s); so, maybe there is hope for Jack and Dick, yet! LOL
After thinking about it, maybe if there weren't so many options for take out and dining out so readily available for your husbands (as it is here), then they would be more apt to cook? When your closest eating establishment is 20 miles away, you tend to think twice about going "out" for dinner. Don't get me wrong; I wished we lived closer. It would be so handy!
Carolyn ~ How are you feeling today? Is that z-pack helping?
Barb ~ Do you have L today? When does your dgd's college start? Are they still planning on moving to the city?
Well, I better go see if I can get into the garden. I told my friend I would bring her some beets today and dh went and turned the sprinkler on the garden! GRRRR He says he forgot???
Until later...
Jo Lynn
Good morning.
As Jo Lynn said, it's beautiful in the NW. BUT, we are about to get hot for a couple days. Jo Lynn, I don't have L. today, maybe tomorrow. Next week I only get him one day because he is going to go to school 3 days a week now. I am not sure if the kids will move to the City. They are talking about moving back to this side of the river. They moved over to Wa. last fall but both work here and L. goes to school here so can't see why they thought it might be a good idea. I guess because their friends had a big house and would rent to them for less. Seems like they probably pd. more in bridge toll and gas than they saved on rent, but what do I know ?
Jo Ann, loved the picture this morning.
Funny about the guys not knowing how to cook. DH isn't even that great at BBQing, well, anything except burgers. He can heat up a mean can of chili though !
I have no time to chat right now. I need to get busy cleaning but first, the dogs need a bath. Oh , they were so excited when I said that word to them ! NOT !
See ya later. Barb
I've been trying for hours to get here. My server is slow.
I am such a dummy: Calling to see about getting my military ID card renewed, and realized mine is expired. So, they said I wouldn't have any problem. Funny my medicine went through yesterday with it. Oh, my goodness. Another reason to have to drive to Knoxville.
We had a bad storm earlier, and lots of rain. DS has been tearing down the old storage building in the back, so he was able to burn the flooring, without any problem.
DGD brought 7 cucumbers in from her plant. I got 5 earlier in the week. I am going to make your recipe Barb, with the green beans, peas, corn, but use cucumbers instead of celery. This recipe sounds so good. Might make 1/2 of it though. Will have to get some pimento's.
The cake is very easy. Verna, you use the whole egg instead of all that folding.
The Z-pac seems to have helped some. I still have congestion in my lungs. The cough syrup is really strong. I only took some of it last night, and it made me nauseous. But, I slept ok. I guess.
At least , I haven't laid around all day today.
Thought about going over to Staples and check on a new desk top. Still might do that tomorrow. I need to get my zip- loc bags too. And, the store where I went yest. didn't have the hugh ones.
My cousin, might be gone while we are out that way. She is supposed to be going home with her sister to N.H. the end of this month.
Thank you all for the well wishes. I think I am glad I went to the doctor.
Will get off here, and maybe check back later. If it will let me.
Love and best wishes, Carolyn
Oh, I forgot, Sonny used to make some delicious Suki-Yaki, he learned to make while he was in Japan. He was stationed there 6 months. Plus, he was in the Navy 6 years before we married. So, I couldn't fuss at that time about him being gone. I was 12 or 13.
Back from the doctor appmt and there was no bad news, but no good news either, except that the doctor is weaning him down from the prednisone. He's going to drop 5 mg every two weeks till he is finally at 15 mg, and stay there till he hears further, unless by decreasing the amount, he gets worse, then call the doctor.
The doctor has scheduled an MRI of his heart and lungs and wants to specifically talk to the tech who will be doing it, to lethim/ her know what he is looking for, then Tom has another apmt with another pulmonary hypertension specialist from University Hospital, since the clinic has not scheduled him till the middle of September. This new doctor was the pulmonologist's first choice anyway, and asked Tom what he thinks about seeing another doctor, which Tom agreed to.
He is feeling somewhat better, he is pushing himself a little too much without using the oxygen, but all in all, is doing OK... His BP is up, but the doctor thinks that's from the prednisone, so should come down. So... more tests..... more waiting, but if all of this testing shows up something it will all be worth it.
Barb, I hope your kids do move back to your side of the river... it will be nice to have them close by. Oh, my, Landen is becoming such a big boy... three days a week of school now. I'm sure he's more than ready, he's such a smartie....
ODS and DDIL are looking for a new house. She is teaching at a new college this next year, and they're looking closer to work for both of them, plus, for 8th grade up, want the trips in a different school system. They found a school system they love in a very desirable area, and the difficult thing is that even in this economy, houses there are selling so fast, it makes a purchase more expensive and more difficult. They did put down a bid on one house and have gone back and forth a couple of times with counter offers.... they said if the owner counters one more time they'll forget that one and keep looking. If they do buy there, it won't be too much further from us and will be closer to Tom.
Sue, you're as hot there as we are. Enjoy your dinner out tonight and I hope you get something you like better this time. By the way, just wondering.. how long does a spray on tan last? Not that I'm thinking of getting one.. I don't like "tan" anymore. Of course, years ago... I loved sun bathing and getting tan every summer. Your spray tan is much, much safer, especially now.
Sharing the inside scoop on our husband's cooking abilities, I'll weigh in on that one and just simply admit that DH cannot cook at all. The last time he tried it was once for Mother's Day and he has never ever mentioned cooking for anything since then. LOL As far as grilling goes..... He lights the grill.... I get everything ready, and hand him the tray with EVERYTHING on it and he puts it on the grill.... watches it so it doesn't catch fire or burn, I baste if needed and test it, then let him know when it's done. LOL But, to him, that's cooking on the grill, and he accepts my compliments graciously, so I just go with it...... LOL
Jo Lynn, nice weather there too, so far at least.... No.. I have to disagree with your thinking that if carry out wasn't so available our husbands would learn to cook.... not mine.... never, I'm sure of it.... he would live on cold cereal LOL
Carolyn, so glad you're feeling a little better. Hope that continues and you'll be back to really being well in no time.
Now, I have to settle down to finish paperwork I didn't finish yesterday. I would rather be out on the deck. Eventhough it's very hot outside, the deck is really comfortable and shady and there is such a nice warm breeze, it would be just wonderful to be sitting out there to do some reading, and also get in a game or two of Draw Something..... which I'm addicted to.... so much fun. Wish I had finished my work yesterday.... that's what I get.
Time for me to get busy... maybe I can finish in here and see if the deck has dried yet and set out a couple of chairs for later.
Hello everyone. I thought I'd been here already today....guess this heat is getting to me!
I was up and out early...waiting for Hobby Lobby to open at 9 am....got in and picked up what I needed and was back home by 10...that included stopping at Chick-fil-A for a peach milkshake. Yum! That was sort of the rest of my breakfast as I had pimiento cheese on toast before I left home. Oh well...I didn't need any lunch that way.
I was folding laundry when Barb called...she was at Sprouts and asked if I needed anything. What a blessing! Now I have fresh milk, fresh fruits and veggies again. I need to go clean the cantaloupe and celery and get them into the refrigerator. I have one more small load of laundry to fold and then I'm done with that for a day. I've been watching the Olympics off and on....what amazing athletes they all are!
Jo Ann...your news about Tom was about like Rob's....not good, not bad but the problems not yet fixed.
I wish Ken and Judy would come buy Barb's house...it's in a great school district but a bit far for them to commute to work! She hasn't had any lookers in over a week. I think the realtor is going to lower the price a bit, rework the photos and the "blurb". I sent her to look at the outsides of three places near here and also re-looked at her list of ones that meet her criteria.
Not quite as hot today...think we've already hit the high for the day...but maybe not.
Today would have been DH and my 33rd anniversary. 33 years ago today was also a Friday and also pretty hot. My dad took me to the church midafternoon so I could be there for the cake delivery and the flower delivery. Those got there and I put things in place. The ceremoney went off without a problem but when it came time for us to leave we discovered we neither one had a car there. Daddy had taken me and the best man brought Bill. And to think we had three vehicles between the two of us! The best man took us to my house and we got my car and went on from there. What a day! I was carrying my dress in a dry cleaner bag and dropped it in the parking lot...almost had to take it home and wash it! We were so well prepared....NOT!
As far as him cooking...he did man the grill but everything was usually overcooked. But he could make a mean bologna sandwich!
Need to get in there and work on the veggies etc. Y'all have a good evening.
vammie
Good evening friends,
I'm so happy to be back online.
I have been very busy today so it is late and I am pooped.
I will be back to chat tomorrow. I am going for a perm in the morning but should have a quiet afternoon. LOL
Oh, my friend Flo is almost certainly buying the condo two doors down from me. That is what I was doing all day. We looked at another one too but she had decided to settle for the one near me.
Have a nice evening Shirley
