Hi.  Just a quick note to explain my absence.  I have some kind of tummy thing going on and have been feeling quite sick since Saturday. If it is not better by tomorrow, I will go to the doctor.  Waves of nausea and nasty headache.  Can't eat, and am forcing myself to drink.  I have never had a a tummy bug that lasts this long.  So I am not feeling very chatty just now. I'm sure it will pass in time. Just laying low for the time being.  Take care!  lusi

A little chilly here today, but the sun is out.

Lusi, so sorry you aren't feeling well. Hope you will be better soon.

I have had some kind of issue's where I couldn't get to this site.

We had our yard sale fri. and sat. It was ok. I didn't do much lifting or anything, but my back is  hurting. It always hurts, but this is worse. I have had ice on it this morning.
I did go to Church though. Came home and slept all afternoon. Might have to head back to the dr.
I haven't had any coffee since thursday. (I miss it), but read someplace where the caffeine helps with aches and pains.
Just hoping to be situated and not have this problem, come time for the trip, I am getting excited about it.

Jo Ann, I just pray your mother will be better quickly. That pneumonis is nothing to take lightly. I do, However think they add problems. That was the same with Sonny, they came up with COPD and he had never had any lung problem's til he was hospitalized for pneumonia.
Just know that I care, and wish I could do something for her.

Maureen, I should apologize for sending those grown up roses. I don't do yard work, and Sonny kept everything out door's cut and trimmed. I think I was just so excited to see that the roses were still blooming so pretty, I grabbed my camera. And, no I didn't take offense to it.
Barb, I use a Kodak for the pictures and transferring them to the computer. It does much clearer work than the last one I had. It is actually a cheap camera from walmart.

I haven't cooked a lot lately. The kids have all been bringing me meals. I am trying to cut back on some of the types of foods that I eat anyway, such a hard thing to do.

And, I LOVE onions. I keep onions in the bottom of my fridge all the time. The kids said I buy onions like they buy soda pop's.

For supper last night, I had beans, salad, lettuce/onion/oil/vinegar, and the rest of my meatloaf. I eat very little meat so wanted to not waste the meatloaf.
Bought some steaks the other day, and gave them to the kids. I do like the Hebrew Nation hotdogs, Verna.

Sonny always insisted that we get our flu shot's, so I guess I will most likely get one before we leave.

And, with working with the public all the years, I guess I needed one.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Carolyn

Good morning Lusi, Carolyn and everyone to join us today,

It looks like beautiful weather this week.  Too bad there is so much going on, it would be a perfect time for a day trip to the island on the ferry.

I heard from the nurse at the hospital, who said Mom's labs are all good, no fever for three days, she can switch to oral antibiotics,  and  after doing an assessment, Physical Therapy, decided  when she is discharged, it should be to rehab,  insteasd of right back to Elmcroft.  She didn't know when that would be, though, because the doctor hadn't been in yet  today, and she'll make that decision.  I think it might be today. Once they let us know, and her room at Brentwood is assigned, I can go in to sign all of the papers for her admission, then go to Elmcroft, pack clothes, books and whatever else she wants to be comfortable while in rehab, once again. I don't think she'll be there too long this time.  The therapist said she's just too weak from the pneumonia to be back on her own right now and needs to get her strength back.  In rehab, she'll be more active, plus the PT every day should help with that.

Lusi,  I'm so sorry you're not well.  It sure sounds like the stomach flu, which can last a while.  I hope you'll be over whatever this is soon.

Carolyn, thank you for your thoughts and concerns for Mom.  She's doing pretty well, especially considering her age.  She didn't get your card yet, because she wanted me to wait to bring it to Brentwood with the rest of her things.

I hope your back pain will ease up today.  A yard sale/garage sale is a lot of work.  We were determined to finally have one this summer, and have everything packed and ready to set out, but haven't had free time to do it.  I think this year, we've passed peak time for them again... ugh.... have to wait another year.  I'll have to check the local newspaper to see if many are still being listed......  maybe there's still time.

Viny, I know you said you've checked everything twice....  so you and Pat are probably just about ready ...... how exciting to be leaving soon.  How many days will you travel before arriving in Oregon?

I have some laundry to do today, not much, though, I'm almost done with that.  DH has one meeting after another all day and will be home for dinner and then a trustees meeting tonight, so it will be a long day for him.

I hope everyone is having a nice Monday.

    God bless,

    Jo Ann

Lusi, that doesn’t sound very good.   Mine only lasted 5 hrs and it was miserable.   I feel for you.   Sure hope you can sleep while having it.

Carolyn, no need to apologize – the roses are so beautiful.   I know it gives you so much joy to see them blooming and so pretty even without Sonny’s help.   Sort of like a part of him living on.   If something is special to you and you want to share, we all want to receive.   And it’s hard working outside if that isn’t what you’re used to.   Shirley was the same, Waldo did the majority of the yard work.

Hope you get some help with your back.

No painting for today – I told DH too much else to do that’s more important.   We can always do it on Friday.   I’m still working upstairs, this will teach me not to loaf when it comes to housework.   I am just not the type who has everything up to date all the time.

DH just left for Lowe’s, think I’ll vacuum the stairs.   Hard to do if he’s watching TV.   He says it’s ok to go ahead and vacuum, but can’t imagine how he could even hear.

Editing to say "hi" to Jo Ann.   Glad your mom sounds like she's getting better.   What would she do without you?   I think of that everytime I see that you are so "on top" of everything.

What a gorgeous picture today - the colors are so vibrant.   Thanks for finding that one.

    Be back later…..

Good morning all. We did an early run to Sam’s. I just finished hanging out the laundry and DH left for a few days in Wis. Next I’ll go to Aldi and maybe JoAnn Fabrics.

lusi, so sorry you are sick. It sounds nasty too. I hope you feel better or go to the doctor for some relief.

Carolyn, I hope your back feels better today. Did you sell a lot at the yard sale?

JoAnn, beautiful pic today, such bright colors.  Sounds like your mom is doing very well. Hopefully she won’t be in rehab too long because her hospital visit was so short.

Our week is looking good weather-wise too. The rain predicted for yesterday never happened and none expected this week. The drought continues.

Maureen, I bet you are tired at the end of the day but it is nice to get things accomplished and behind you. This has been such a busy time for you but well worth it.

Well, I’d better get something done so I can relax with a glass of Choco-Vine this afternoon, LOL Drinks

  • Re: Healthy choices Monday 8/20/12

I'm back...  just got word that Mom will be transported later this afternoon.  Nice to know it will be today....

Maureen, you're right the painting can wait till you get everything else done and don't have to think about that...   If you're like me,  once that's behind you,  you'll be ready for the painting.   Glad those tummy issues you get only last 5 hours... even that is too long when you aren't feeling well.

Sue, I liked that picture too...  I can't imagine how anyone keeps that kind of garden looking so perfect.....

We didn't get the rain, yesterday either.... Tom did  and he's just a little south of us.  Lots of rain in the forecast, but nothing yesterday or today here either. Enjoy your down time  Drinks   LOL....   wish I could join you....  lol

Vammie, I baked the chicken breasts, yesterday with a little garlic powder, dried basil, pepper and a sprinkle of EVOO.  They came very good.  I made sweet potato fries to go with that and always use a little of the chili powder that you recommended....  we love them that way....   so we had that with steamed broccoli, and a tossed salad.

Jo Lynn, you had such a busy and productive weekend....  love to get that much done, but rarely do anymore. LOL  Your tomato, cuke and feta cheese salad sounds good....  this is peak time for some good fresh tomato salads......  I have to plan on a tomato pie again, now that the tomatoes are all so good.

Shirley, is Mo doing any better?  I hope so....

OK, have lots to do getting things ready for Mom to be settled in and all the paper work finished for registration......      this will probably take most of the afternoon.  Sorry if I missed you for now, will check in later to catch up with everyone.....

    Good afternoon friends,

I am waiting for the man to go to install my new blind on the slider window.

He will be here around one. I can’t wait to have this done. The one that is on now is
falling apart day by day. It’s a cheap plastic thing.

Mo doesn’t seem to act any differently. I think it is going to take a few weeks before we will see an improvement. It is very difficult to give him pills. I tried putting
them inside a piece of hot dog. That fooled him a couple times but now he spits the pill out. I called the vets this morning and she told me to open the capsule and put it in his food.

Jo Ann I’m pleased to hear your mom is on her way to rehab. I pray she will gain back her strength quickly.

I think I am going to make some broccoli slaw this afternoon. I bought all the ingredients
last week and forgot about doing it.

We have such a good time at the dinner party Saturday night. We went to a Mexican restaurant. The service, food and music were excellent.

I did go to watch the younger ladies bowl. I miss bowling LOL probably because I know I can’t do it anymore. Hmm

Carrie spent the night here with me. She went to a church picnic with her mom and Joe (stepdad)yesterday. She decided to stay here again and leave early this morning for work. Of course, she bought her laundry Big Smile what a girl!

Flo is all moved in but not allowed to stay there until the closing. She and her daughter are going back to the house to tidy up for one last time.

They will be back here later today.

Boy, I thought I had a lot of boxes when I moved here ---well she has me beat.

    And clothes__she could open a thrift shop.Surprise

Lusi, I hope you feel better real soon. Holley had one of those nasty stomach bugs last
    week.  I hope I don’t get it.

The weather is beautiful. I must check the ten day forecast to see what is store for  next Saturday.

    Have a nice day      Shirley

Showers are expected later in the  day

Good morning.. I’m getting here a little earlier today. I think if I get on too late (like yesterday), its too late for some of you and no one sees the posts.

lusi ~ I’m so, so sorry that you aren’t feeling well. I hope that you will go to the doctor if you aren’t better by tomorrow. I hope that you didn’t have to go to work today, either. Get well soon.

Carolyn ~ It seems like more and more of us have been having issues with this website lately. I had the same trouble a few weeks ago. Did you have the yard sale at your house? I hope it was worth your while.

Jo Ann ~ That is good news that your dm is well enough to be moved to rehab. I know she probably doesn’t get the same room each time she goes to rehab; but, does she at least get in the same area. I guess what I am wondering is if she has the same physical therapist and nurses? Are you taking care of yourself? Your dinner last night sounds very good.

The tomato/cucumber salad was very good. I sent some in dh’s lunch this morning. If anyone wants the recipe, I’ll post it over on our RTR thread so that its easier to find.

Maureen ~ Why does it take having house guests and/or having something at our house to get in and do some of the deep cleaning, etc., that needs to be done? It would be so much easier if I just kept up with things. I work really hard to get the house all cleaned and organized and I think I’m going to keep it up... then I start to slip and pretty soon its back to the way it was. I guess I just need to have company more often? Ummm, I don’t think that is going to happen until I’m not working full-time! Thank you for posting the dressing recipe.

Sue ~ Do you have enough choco-vine for me, too? I would love to join you for some - that stuff is soooo good!

Shirley ~ How fun to have Carrie stay with you for a couple of days/night (dirty laundry and all)! We used to have to wrap our dog's pills up in a bit of cheese to get him to take it. Also, my friend puts the pill in peanut butter for her dog. Hopefully, opening the capsule and sprinkling it on his food will work. I guess the good thing is... you don't have to figure out where Flo is going to put all that stuff! LOL Is she in the condo right next to you?

    Until later....

Will put the balsamic dressing on RTR in a minute.

Jo Ann, good news with your Mom, glad you are helping get her settled in.   Yummy sounding dinner - I always enjoy hearing what others are fixing.

Sue, sounds like you will have a few days to yourself.   You're probably right about DH being more interested in staying around once your DD moves into her house.   In the meantime, he sounds like he's enjoying himself.   So nice to have a get-away like that.

JoAnn, a lot of time consuming work for you but worth it to get your mom out of the hospital and into rehab.

Shirley, I used to crush my dog’s pills and put the crushed pieces in tiny peanut butter sandwiches, about an inch square. My dog ate them for years. Maybe Mo would like that. Carrie is like all young people, always bringing laundry to mom or Grandma but we don't mind do we?

JoLynn, I agree with your remark about it taking house guests to make us do things that have needed to be done for a while. I was that way when my cousins visited in 2010. Come on over, I have 2 bottles of ChocoVine Drinks Of course my patio is wet now so we'll have to sit inside, LOL

Of course as soon as it got cloudy they changed the forecast to mostly cloudy and then when I heard the thunder they said “chance of rain”…no! really??? What kind of a forecast is that when it’s 10 minutes old? I don’t call that a "forecast" at all. Anyway I had to bring in the half dry laundry when the rain started. It’s in the laundry basket and I’ll either hang it back outside or in the house.

  • Re: Healthy choices Monday 8/20/12

Hello everyone  I thought I'd posted earlier but guess I got interrupted and forgot to come back.  Up and out early for a foot dr appt....no need to come back unless I have problems.  Glad that's over with.  Then I stopped by church to drop off the big mixing bowl set and a cash box.  Things I didn't need and they did.  Glad to get those out of the way.  Cooler today....nice!  It was 71º when I left for my appt.  The sun is shining and the sky is clear so we could have a bodacious warm up....but we hope not!

I need to finish up here in the office....now that the desk is clear, I don't have much incentive....but I'll keep plugging on it.

No real plans for the day....and no laundry!  Hooray for that!

Lusi, hope you soon feel better.  Jo Lynn...that salad sounds good.  Mine was tomatoes, cukes and red onion....delicious!  I'll bet the feta really added to it.  Please share the recipe.

Shirley, Molly won't take pills at all.  I have to get her in a headlock, pry open her mouth and then stuff the pill as far down as I can while stroking her throat.  She is a terrific pill spitter-outter.

Let's see....Maureen is cleaning for company, Barb is dreaming up redecorating ideas, Viny is probably packing and repacking the car, Jo Lynn's at work, Lusi is resting, Marti is absent, Carolyn is resting up, PatA is working, NursePat is missing, Shirley is spoiling Mo....and I'm being lazy.  What a crew!

I'd better get busy....need a snack....had a late breakfast so I'm skipping lunch but need a little something....maybe some watermelon.

    I'll peek in later...

Hi,  I left out early this morning for doctor appt. that I had cancelled the week, the ladder walked away, I have two more that I had to reschedule, but this has been an all day things, and tomorrow, I have luncheon, then will sit with DH's aunt all afternoon, fix her lunch & dinner and all day Wed.  I'm not sure I need to be doing that with all I've put off, but guess I will, they need someone. and she's choosy about who stays. Lucky me....I have therapy in 30 minutes then a SS social at 6,  I may by pass that, I'm tired.
Lusi, hope you feel better, that bug is going around everywhere.
Carolyn, I think I'm going to get my flu shot this week too. get that out of the way,
Just saying Hi to all , I've got to get my '.....' moving or I'll be late for the first therapy and I hope it works wonders.  I've had to put the huge boot back on.  feels better than the cloth one.

    Hi everyone.

We've been running around all day.  Nadene called first thing and asked if I would take her to Walmart .  I always just kind of wander around and tell her I'll meet her by the checkouts so that she can take all the time she wants.  Well, we hadn't been there long when I looked up front and she is standing there with her cell phone, trying to call me.  She was ready to go.  She said her head felt funny.  Maybe her eyes too and she thought it might be her sinus.  So I took her back home.  I think  I'm noticing a trend.  When I picked her up, she said her DD had been saying she wanted to go to AZ for the winter and take Nadene .  I know that's not what she wants to do and it seems like anytime something isn't what she wants, she doesn't feel good.   When her DD was gone 2 weeks ago, she went to the ER twice and to the Dr. once.  It seems to be a pattern.

Anyway, DH went to the Dr. again and she had him get  a chest Xray.  His lungs are clear but he has chronic sinusitis so she switched his med.  She said she is glad he came back.  If this doesn't fix him, he will go to the ear, nose and throat guy.

Marti, I thought of you today when I was at Walmart.   There was a gal in there who had one of those leg things (boot?) that went up to her knee.  Well, she had her leg bent and on this little thing, for lack of a better word I'll call it a tricycle.  I looked like it was special made just for putting your leg on .  Maybe that's something you could use to get around with your leg hurt.

Lusi, sorry you are so sick.  I just hope you feel better and are able to keep fluids down.

Verna, I won't actually be doing any decorating for awhile.  I just get tired of looking at the same old things.  I guess that comes from working in furn. stores where I was always changing things around and getting new things in.

So, I guess you all don't think it's too early for the flu shots.  I'd like to get mine overwith but I'm sure DH wants me to wait until he gets his.  I am not sure if I will though.  That depends on if her EVER gets well !!

Well gang, I'm getting off here for tonight. Sleep tight.  Barb

Barb...I saw that same lady today!  The one with her leg on the scooter/tricycle thingy!  Boy, she sure does get around!  LOL!  I saw her at the foot dr's office.  It's a pretty neat thing but I suspect a certain degree of coordination has to go along with it.

I went berserk on Amazon today and downloaded a dozen books....most of which were 99¢ or $1.99.....what fun!  I read the previews on each before I got them.  Hope they will be good.

This has not been my most productive day.  In fact, I can't really figure out what I've done except payroll.  And messing around on Amazon with my Kindle.  Oh well...tomorrow's another day....Scarlet O'Hara/Gone With the Wind.  Tomorrow I do one of my Baylor things so I'll have to drive into Dallas.  That's all I'll get done tomorrow besides a possible load of laundry.

I'm outta here for the night.

  • Re: Healthy choices Monday 8/20/12

Barb, I think Nadene has what my aunt had.   She was my mom's sister living in the Bay Area and both her sisters were gone and also her husband and daughter .   All that remained was her son and his wife.   She was in her 90's and drove them nuts.   The DIL said if they tried to go anywhere on a a trip with the motorhome, they might get an hour's distance (or less) away and they would get a call telling them she had some problem.   Head feeling funny, you name it, all kinds of ailments.  My Mom was awful the day we were going to look at assisted living places.   She had a stomach ache that kept her from going and when I told her not to worry about it, the stomach ache magically disappeared and she was hungry.   So I think your observation is probably very accurate.  It's really the only way she knows to control those in her life.   She disagrees with what they want for her and she is going to fight it.

Personally, I don't get my flu shot till October, but that's just me.   If you've gotten before in Sept, and you never got the flu, then I'd say go for it.  Your poor husband, sounds like he's got problems.
