Indulgence no longer has to feel guilty. Go ahead, treat yourself!
Thor's Well at Cape Perpetua, Oregon
Good morning everyone been so long since I started a post just about couldn't remember how to get use started. LOL
Cool here in the mornings but weather report says we will be in the 50's tell the end of next week hope there right that would get use through Thanksgiving.
Carolyn glad to see work went well think you said only 2 days a week is that right how far will you need to drive and in the winter time are the roads safe?
Jo Lynn so glad you had a wonderful time with family need pictures of the little ones. I do the cooking for Thanksgiving in the morning I use 2 electric roasters for the turkeys and have a portable convection oven that I do the ham in that way it leaves the kitchen stove open for anything Pat wants to make. DS doze the deep fried turkey out side and DD is doing one at her house so it works out good also Pat and OGS will be making the pies on Wednesday to have that out of the way then YGS makes the mashed potatoes and dressing thanksgiving morning and I only use the stove to make the gravy works great.
Marti I like the way your doing your turkey breast but must admit I love the smell of the turkey cooking almost as much as eating it last year I carved differently cutting the whole breast out and then slicing it crossways really works great will do that again this year.
Barb I got to admit I did a lot of running around when I was there but had so much fun would have staid another week if Pat would have had more medication with her and had not hurt her knee.
Have a nice day and God bless everyone prayers going out to all that need it.
Good Morning Viny and thanks so much for opening this morning, feels like ole times when I see you here this early. You and Jo Ann give us an education with your beautiful pictures each morning, lots of these places, I've never seen or heard of so I enjoy these pictures so much. Sounds like you have everything organized for Thanksgiving, and now that you have done this a couple years, I know it falls into place really well. How many will you have this year. I no longer fix a whole turkey, with only DS and family, we have a small group and since they won't be here but a couple days, having the breast cooked by this chef is the best way. I have two ovens, and realize that I never use one of them so it would not have been a problemI'm still looking at the Sweet Potato Pound Cake and may try it over the week end.
Shirley, I've not forgotten the coconut cake recipe, I thought of it yesterday when I was in grocery store and picked up a coconut to grate. I'll get that recipe to you this weekend. I've made a note so I won't forget.I do have someone coming to clean up the "junk" on my computer and see why my speakers aren't working, My keyboard has a place that can/does control the speakers and I'm thinking that is the problem, I sometimes hit them by accident and then can't change. Oh well, as I said, I'm not to smart when I start changing things on here. Really guess I should get a new keyboard, so many letters are worn off, that doesn't bother me, but I notice it does others that try to use my keyboard. Remember... A friend complained about it this weekend.Time for me to get out of here to therapy. I'll be back later today.... Everyone have a good productive day.
Good morning Marti glad you said something about a pound cake I promised DDiL mother that I would make a Lemon pound Cake for her this thanksgiving, she gave me a pan that is in the shape of half a lemon for Christmas last year and I felt foolish that I never used it at all, take it easy at therapy this morning.
Talk about hitting something on the computer yesterday I did something wrong and it put a stupid bar at the bottom of my screen that would pop-up when ever I went to a sight and blocked me from doing anything on the sight took me about an hour to get it off. Grrrr
Barb I wanted to tell you that I did the gin/raisin thing with dark raisins this last time and I don't think it works at all think I will make up a new batch and just use these in my salad and oatmeal to use them up.
Good morning Viny and everyone to join us today,
Viny what a great picture! I have to look up Thor's Well for more information. Thanks... love a picture that spurs interest and a little research. That will be fun.
So good to hear about your hip being better and also that Pat has new doctors who seem to be paying attention and taking good care of her. Seeing them twice a week should get her diabetes at a level where she can manage it well. What good news.
On the electric roasters for the turkey, does the turkey brown in an electric roaster like it does in an oven, and make good browned juice for making gravey? Never used one but wondered if I needed it, how that works.
Marti, hope you have a good session at therapy. You really do sound like things are going very well with that... so happy to hear that after you being off of your feet for sooo long. I hope whoever is cleaning up your computer can get it to where you want it to be.
Carolyn, it sounds like your new job is agreeing with you. I do't think you've sounded this enthusiastic and energetic for a long time... I hope it all continues to go well for you. I remember you always saying how much you missed all your friends and the work you did at Perkins. It sounds like this was a good decsion. :)
Maureen, what color curtains for the kitchen did you end up with.... nice to have so m any choices available.
You know, thinking about it, you and Jo Lynn are right... I don't mind the small group for dinner and know it will be fun getting together with everyone after for desserts... I'm already thinking of making some hot appetizers to serve while we play games and before desserts... I know by then the trips will be ready to eat again and also know how much they love Hanky Panky... almost everyone likes it here. I bought a new 6 quart oval crock pot and a small hot dip crock pot came with it, so am thinking of using that one for another hot dip I have a recipe for.
Jo Lynn, so glad things are well there and you being MIA was only because you were so busy. Did you take pictures of the little ones? Would love to see them. What a nice time you must have had with them. What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
Vammie, it sounds like Shadow is coming along just fine. What a cute little pup and I know you don't want to be outside all the time, but I think it's so cute she wants you out there playing with her. LOL So glad you're enjoying her so much.
Donna, I had both memberships for a while, and then realized we just never used Sams any more, so now only keep Costco. Did some good shopping there. I got some really beautiful Christmas Cards, there as usual, and also a big asortment of gift bags... theirs are so nice. Had almost a $300 bill by the time we were finished, but did manage to even buy one Christmas gift, which was unexpected... it's for my nephew and made by Lego, wich he loves, so am happy I found something fun for him. Got my big container of Finish gel tabs for the dishwasher, big package of Vanity Fair napkins, two sizes of the clear plastc dishes, kitchen trash bags, salmon, that I can cut into 6 servings and rewrap and freeze, and even found what looks like a nice Marino wool v neck for DH. Oh, yes, I get my Prilosec there too, the big jar of Cetaphil (sp?) skin moisturizer and have been using that for my clensing cream as well as mosturizer lately..... and DH his big package of razors... always lots to pick up when you haven't shopped for a long time.... oops... here I go on and on and am sure you don't need to know my whole shopping list.. sorry :(
Barb, what a good friend you are to Nadene.. I'm sure she doesn't know what she would do without you...
What kind of concert did Heathr have last night.. is she in choir or is it band or orchestra... sounds like fun.
Sue, good news on the sale of your DS's house.. that's a relief. K & J have had two lookers at their house since it's been on the market, but so far, no news... One wanted to make sure there was bus service to the Catholic School, St. Rita's in Solon, which isn't that close, so I dont' know what they found out about that..... As for not having enough room for a table... do you serve buffet style? That always works when you just don't have enough room for sit down... and I'm sure everyone will enjoy whichever way you do your Thanksgiving dinner... just being there and together.
I have a busy and long day ahead, but one I'm looking forward to.(I'm finally helping in Tom's house... lol.... more later)
Not seeing Mom today.. Dsis will go instead. Yesterday she looked very, very tired and is continuing to lose weight. The nurses have even suggessted we bring in some of her favorites to eat, which we have planned through Sunday, so far... all lunches since that seems to be her best meal other than breakfast. I finished my "homework" yesterday, but will do some cleaning for the weekend with the cleaning girls that are coming in today, then going out to Tom's and helping him clean house.... finally got him to agree to a little help, but only on his condition that he takes us out to dinner afterward. I said it's a deal... knowing the one thing he just doesn't do at home is dust. He keeps up pretty well with his house, it's just those dust bunnies..... lol
I hope everyone will nave a nice and productive day today...
Viny, I had to see more of Thor's Well and found this......
This is so neat... thanks again Viny.
Good morning, JoAnn, Marti and Vin, And, all the rest to come today. It is sunshiney here, but there was a frost again this morning. Vin, the job is actually 48 miles one way, but I will ride with my DD. Otherwise, I wouldn't be working evening's. I am not serving, except for during the server's break. So, have a chance to make some tips too.
Scary stuff overseas. My cousin's DGD lives in Jericho, married a guy from there and they have a baby. She did say on F/B that they are doing fine.
I need to go to the courthouse and take care of property taxes. And, need to get the items for Wed. night's meal. I can
get a head start on that part of my shopping.
Love and best wishes.
Good morning friends,
Love the picture this morning
I just deleted my post. What I did ~~I don’t know.
Maybe the fall and hitting my head last night has left me nutty.
I’m okay thank God but embarrassed because everyone got so upset.
I was talking to Carrie when I tripped over one of Mo’ beds and hit my head on the edge of my desk.
She wanted to call 911 but all I needed was a minute to access myself after the stars went away.
You know when you fall it takes a while to make sure all the moving parts are still moving right.
She called Flo and she came over to stay with me for a couple hours.
I have now decided to get the medical alert button again. Things can happen so quickly and I can go down just as quickly now, it seems.
Viny, I love the smells of dinner cooking on Thanksgiving too. In fact I am simmering a chicken carcass right now to make some soup. The whole condo smells so good.
Did I tell you I bought a small leather recliner for the living room? I might have to switch my dad’s desk to my bedroom where I have a bookcase now. The bookcase will be flush to the wall. The chair will be delivered Tuesday. I will have Matthew help me if I have to move the desk.
I bought a frozen turkey (about 14 lbs.) I wonder how long it will take to thaw in the frig.
I finally found some block mincemeat for my cookies. I’ve been looking for it for a couple weeks.
You know, I am so discourage with the stores every year they start pushing Christmas earlier.
Now they don’t want to close for Thanksgiving. I think Holley is going to work at midnight Thanksgiving night.
Stephanie is working until four Thanksgiving day but she works for security that I can understand.
I hope everyone enjoys the day.
It is sunny and cold here Shirley
Shirley so glad you are not hurt please be careful a 14lb turkey should take about 2 to 3 days in the frig would do the 3 days just to make sure.
Good morning. It's another dreary one. We have that inversion hanging in the Gorge.
Viny, I knew that it was golden raisens you had to use but I can't remember why the dark ones don't work. Loved the picture. If you google Cape Perpetua, you can look at some video. I think the one I like is Scenic Or. with Grant MComie. He is a travel guy who has a show on TV. Lots of beautiful Scenery of the rugged part of the Or. coast that a lot of people don't realize is there. I hope you can come back and spend more time in Or. There is so much to see and never enough time. Maybe Ann and Pat will be up for another trip in a couple years. About Thanksgiving in the Morton building. How close is that to your house ? How do you transport the food ? I think I need a video of that .
Shirley, I am sorry about your fall. I think you are right about the medical alert. I have been trying to talk Nadene into getting one. My turkey is 14 lbs. and I will put it in the refrig. on Sun.
Do any of you brine your turkey ?
Sue, you know how little my house is. I gave up on Sit downs a long time ago. Well, we do put the table out so it seats 6 but the rest just use TV trays. I have added another table before but I don't have enough chairs so would have to borrow some. And, like you said, who wants to move the furniture out ?
Marti, I'm thinking of your beautiful kitchen. I loved seeing the pictures that Shirley and Carolyn sent. What a great kitchen to work in. Your home is beautiful.
Jo Ann, Heather is in Choir. I didn't go last night. I took her out there a couple hrs. before the concert because she wanted to watch the basket ball game that was going on first. I usually ride out with DD because I can't see to drive at night. Never could so this is nothing new. Anyway, DD and DSIL had just returned from a mini vacation and got back just before the concert so I didn't go with them. They probably thought DH was going so didn't think to call. Anyway, I'll go to the spring one when it's daylight out. I have to tell you how wise H. is though. I asked her if she had talked to her dad . She said he had texted her but she didn't answer because she is still mad at him. She said he had just said he loved her. I told her she could have just texted that she loved him too. She said, "Well, that would have been the adult thing to do but I'm only 13.......And So Is My Dad !" Boy, does she have him figured out or what !!!
Carolyn, sounds like you are going to like your job. It's hard not to work when you have had a job you loved working with the public all those years. DH says he'd be fired the first day if he had to work with customers. I'm sure he's right.
Well, Nadene just called to see what time I was taking her to the store this morning so I'd better get my list made.
Have a good day all. Barb
Finished.... sheets changed and bed made, fridge cleaned out and cleaned with that really good clorox spray, kitchen cabinets done with orange glow and counter tops and sinks done too.... now the girls can do the bathroom, floors and vacuuming. I'm so glad they're here today because I don't want to vacuum because of my shoulder. I should start using my left hand.... never think of it.
Carolyn, 48 miles one way... that must take about 45 minutes to almost an hour to get to work. How are your roads during the winter... Nice for both you and your DD to have company on the roads. Since you don't wait on tables most of the time, do you cook? I know you would be so good at doing either one.
Shirley, what a scare, hitting your head on the desk on the way down.... no wonder you saw stars... that must have really hurt. If you had called squad, they would automatically have taken you into the ER for a scan. That's standard for any head injury.. How are you feeling today? Any kind of head pain, nausea or blured vision, please get yourself checked out asap. I'm glad you're ok.... but don't take any chances... JMHO
Barb, too bad you had to miss Heather's concert. I would love to have heard a concert choir again.. I missed singing, so much, once I graduated... used to just love it.
Heather just amazes me... she is so wise beyond her years... yes, she is so on top of everything. Good for her....
I'm so proud of myself, I just returned from the postoffice, my Christmas Package is in the mail, dear Verna, some I would like you to open as soon as you get the package, the others doesn't matter. I thought I had a box large enough but had to do some unwrapping and just stuffing a few items, but I'm sure she won't care when the pkg. arrives, I'm hoping you get it early next week, but I did ask for a confirmation, so just hope you are there. Oh well, just leave it to me to make it hard on "us"Shirley, how scary, I'm with Jo Ann, you should have called 911 and be checked, I'm so glad you are getting the alert button, I couldn't believe the gilr at therapy ask me this morning if I had thought about getting one. Well, I just didn't think I was old enough to need it. Am I missing something?
Barb, I have no idea what pictures Shirley and Carolyn sent, I didn't see them, but I'm glad they sent so you could see what I have to keep up, much much too much for me as I age. I'm almost sorry that I didn't take Shirley in the 2 story, but I had so much in the floors etc. but when I get all that out, I am going to send her pictures so she can see the inside. I really like my kitchen there better than this one, but....it was easiler to work in.but then I don't do lots in the kitchen anymore.Healther is so smart for her age and you have been such a great model for her during the years she needed it so much. Her dad is going to be the loser in the end, I always say the parent (divorced) will be the loser in the end, there will come a day he will look back and wish he had done things differently. I have to agree with Paul, not sure I could handle the public in a restaurant, but Carolyn loves it, she is the hostess the nights she works, but when I talked with her this week, I could just hear the excitement in her voice, I know she was not feeling good about the short days and being alone this winter so this will help pass the long winter hours for her.Got to clean up the wrapping mess I made getting Verna's pkg in the mail.
I had to get a picture of my new stir-fry. It consist's of onions, turnips, broccoli, spinach, and sweet potato. Also, had some pork chops with cornbread dressing in the freezer, so used one of those. Yum, it was good. Jo Ann, I am hostessing and cashiering. But, when the server goes on break I will serve. Also, in the winter the server usually leaves early. So, we will see. I am saving my tips for another trip. It takes at least 45 minutes to get to work, but we do have good roads. The most problem we have here when it is snowing and bad is getting down the hill to the main road.
I went to the courthouse and got that taken care of. Also, went to the store for chicken broth and a.c. filter.
Went into the dollar store but started feeling yuk so I came home and made my stir-fry.
The kids are performing a program Sun. They have decided they don't want to leave this Church after all. So, that will make a difference for the cold weather, because ours now is just right down the road maybe 1/4 of a mile. Please pray for my children. They, (and me) are having a hard time. We are still missing Sonny. My son is taking it the worst. He is angry because of losing his Dad.
Just got a glimpse of something going across the field. Bet it was a deer. Did I tell you all that my cousin who lives in Kelso right off I-5 in Wa. seen a black bear and a cougar in her yard? She said she doesn't go out at night and during the day she hurries to get in her car.
Will get off here for now. Talk later.Love and best wishes, CarolynJo Ann, thinking of your mom and pray she is doing good. And, Lusi your BIL also.
Will go back in a while and read the post's.
Hello everyone. Late today as I had to go into town for my labwork and bone density test. And, of course, we had to stop at Escondido's on the way back home Nice outing, I was early for appointment and they took me right in...in fact, was on the way to lunch before it was even time for my appointment....how often does that happen?? They are just the nicest people there!
Lunch was wonderful....as always. I'm full and satisfied and would love to take a nap....but that's not going to happen! Played outside with Shadow for a while....she still wants to play, but I'm tuckered out! I'm hoping she'll be wanting a nap herself. I may just open the door so she can come and go....hope she doesn't bring any more leaves and twigs in! Crazy girl.
Shirley, I think it is imperative that you get one of those alarm things and KEEP IT ON YOUR BODY AT ALL TIMES. Listen up GF....don't want you spending any more time having broken parts.
Marti, wish you'd hop a plane and come have TG with us. My group is up to 7 now. I really need to get that dining room table cleared off...it all started when we went on vacation and I got the big bale of mail when we returned...I'm sure some of it is still sitting there. If I thought you were coming, I'd clear off that table in a heartbeat.
Viny...so nice to have you start us today...just like old times! Sounds like everyone has their own assignment for your big dinner....what fun! I can't even begin to imagine how many pounds of potatoes it will take to feed that crowd. Do you have both mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes? We do! And I love having the leftovers...no cooking, only nuking! Sometimes for nearly a week!!
Jo Ann, how nice to have a clean house. May I send Shadow to help you bring in sticks, stones and twigs! I could vacuum daily with her!
OK....she insists on playing so I'm outta here for now.
Y'all have a good afternoon.
Just had a call from NursePat requesting prayers for her MiL, Barbara Ellis, who has had a pretty significant stroke today. She's in the hospital down in east TX somewhere...Longview, I think she said. Not sure of where things are going at this time. Please keep Barbara, Pat and Don in your prayers as this situation unfolds.
