Good Morning and Happy Saturday Healthy Ones!
This weeks topic is light and healthy! Let's face it, most of us don't have the time to make our own bread(although, I love to make my french rolls and tortillas from scratch). I am planning on making some tortillas some time today.
Today is such a lovely sunny day. I bought some pretty flowers yesterday for the flower bed- planted a few of them and still have some left to plant today. The garden is coming along. We are having very dry weather now though, so going to have to water them really often for a while to keep them thriving! :) We also traded out our weed whacker yesterday for a black and decker brand. The idea of using two rolls of string each time was not an option for us- so we are going to give the B&D a shot. :) Our DIL Lori gave it great reviews-she used it all last season.
Kris, stay safe girl. (((Hugs))) The lake sounds just beautiful, I could almost picture it as you described it.
Dusta, is was great talking with you yesterday evening. You are such a special person in my life. Love you girl!
Off for another cup of coffee- hugs and waves to everyone!
Good morning my lady friends,
Oh Muril - I love bread. Thanks for getting us started this morning -
dh and I need to get it in gear - we need to go get some things at the store - then back - ds and dil are coming to get some plants that we are saving for them - then later this evening we are having a little BD get together with our friends from the gym.
Should be fun.I'm thinking about getting a Hamilton Beach Coffee maker - - - it makes a pot or a single cup.Pretty cool. Since I like my coffee the way I do. And of course you can make tea also.Trying to decide..........decisions/ decisions.......Have a great day - Waving to all of you - - - gotta run..........................
Debi
Morning.
Love bread, especially whole wheat.
Muril enjoyed our talk too.
Debi I think all the frozen dinners are too high in sodium, even the Amy's that are suppose to be healthy. I do eat them some, but I usually get the ones that I can add stir fry veggies or maybe broccoli. In my way of thiking I get more veggies and they won't taste so salty. I like the spring rolls but dip one of them in salsa and they other in sweet/sour sauce. I am going to work on the spot that I am planting my rose. Mel wants to buy another rose bush to plant in that same area. When I called the nursery they said it would get about 4 ft tall and about that the other way too.
Natasha I did get my flower planted, the wave, it is in a hanging basket. Have fun today.
I am thinking about sending my cousin $500, just give it to her. What if she doesn't have money to buy groceries? I know she will get ss soon. And I know my Mother would give her some money.
Mel is still asleep, he was up for awhile during the night. I am going to go work on my rose spot, he told me he would get Sean over here to do it, but I am going to see if I can do it.
hugs
Good Morning!Last night was fun. We didnt eat at the ballpark, just got a lemonade each. Yummy. I was starvin by the time we ate dinner at 1230am though... itd been 12 hours since lunch! This morning when I went to the kitchen for coffee... I saw the chicken I set out YESTERDAY morning to thaw. So needless to say, thats in the trash. No idea what were doing for dinner now. Gonna go over to the campground today. So maybe something in a town near there. Eating breakfast here before we go. Need to run by Walmart to get my bp med before we get on the road though. This cup of coffee is much needed this morning! We got home at about 1230am... ate, showered, and got to bed about 130. Probably fell asleep at 2. I got myself up at 845 this morning, though I could have slept a bit longer. I wanted to start the day :)Muril, I think its great youre feeding Macie people food :) Yummy, tortillas! Thanks for the new topic! I absolutely love the homemade pita at the gyro place I go to! Its so soft and delicious! But, I have a hard time enjoying any bread aside from the plain ole white kind. Its just what I was raised on, and what I like the flavor of. I dont like real hardy wheat breads yet. Maybe someday. Hope you like the new weed whacker. Kris, loving your nice weather :) Hoping you dont get tornadoes though! Candy, tortillas sound good! My breakfast today would have tasted yummy rolled up in a tortilla! Enjoy your BLT for lunch. I love a good BLT! Actually, I love your whole menu today. It looks really tasty.Debi, enjoy running errands and family and friend time today! Hope you get the new coffee maker you want!Dusta, the rose sounds like itll be so beautiful. Its kind of you to send any money to her. But, dont do it out of guilt. If she cant afford groceries, and doesnt have a job, she can get food stamps. If she needs aid, its there for her. Thats just my opinion of course.Alright, gonna finish up my breakfast and coffee. I made homemade hashbrowns (which I love, but rarely make)... linguica sausage and sliced mushrooms and onions, with some fried eggs. Its sooo good!
LOL...I wondered what happened to my post, and here I posted it in the wrong thread. so I've copied it below and will try and go back and delete it from the wrong place. sorry.
Good Morning
Good topic Muril, although i have to admit i’m not a big bread person. I like my turkey burger just wrapped up in lettuce, and i’m not one to have rolls with dinner. But you do kind of need bread for a sandwich. My favorite is Sara Lee 45 Calories and Delightful Whole Wheat with Honey Bread. It has just 90 calories and 160 mg. of sodium for 2 slices, and it’s filled with good grains. The EArth Grans bread is pretty high in calories (200) considering that we set our lunch caliries to 350 or below – that doesn’t give much room for the inside of the sandwich. Anyway, it took a whole lot of reading in the bread aisle before we came up with this one!!
Muril – I’m makeing tortillas today too. It’s a beautiful day here, but if I want to go to the rodeo tomorrow I have to finish my Frommer’s column this afternoon. Tomorrow night I ‘m making some green chili stew, and want to have fresh tortillas, but since I’ll be gone all day I’ll have to fit them in somewhere today.
Dusta: You’re right – most of the low calorie frozen entrees are very high in sodium. When we travel, we often stop at WM (that’s the only time we shop there) and pick up some to have in our hotel room. We have found a few that are lower than restaurant food, but higher than our own home cooked stuff. We spend a lot of time reading labels. One of the ones we get is the Tai Pei Chinese entrees – some are pretty high in sodium, but a few are pretty low. And it’s not just salt – some products have a lot of sodium from the preservatives.
Kris: Hope the weather passes you over this weekend. We had some wild weather here yesterday. They even isued a tornado warning (that just doesn’t happen out here). We decided on the best place to hide (not our bathroom) but fortunately didn’t spot any funnel clouds. We do have some wicked rain, wind and hail and then bright sun and then....that green sky. I know what that means from my travels through tornado alley. Anyway, very unusual weather for us.
OK, Frommers column isn’t writi9ng itself, so back to work. Hope you all have a good weekend.
Breakfast – taquito
Lunch – BLT (with turkey bacon) and Navy Bean Soup
Dinner – Healthy Shrimp Scampi and a large salad (Charles new recipe)

Hi Sweet Ladies!
I have finished the flower bed, unless I decide to add more flowers. LOL
Today I planted 12 petunias and 2 dwarf marigolds. I put the petunias in 3 holes though- with 2 of each color - magenta pink and white. So, they will look fuller. Yesterday I planted Gerbera daisies, dwarf Coreopis, and Firewitch Dianthus- the coreopsis and dianthus will come back year after year. So, I kinda added to the bed this year in perennials.
Dusta, you are not going to believe this- all twelve petunias are the WAVE petunias. I had no idea until I looked at the little flower sticks today to see the spacing directions- and not only that but the little handle had it written really big W A V E ...... now what do I do? I had the holes dug so I planted them. Will they try to hug the ground or something. I noticed they were more expensive but I thought it was because they were healthier looking. LOL
Debi, I like my healthy bread too. Today I had Ez. bread with breakfast and for lunch- I had the multi grain crackers with sardines. :)
Natasha, the only time I really have to have white bread(as in french or something) is when I have a tomato sandwich- I think the whole wheat steals the show. LOL But, other than that, I am pretty flexible and actually prefer a whole grain bread- probably whatever you get used to. Your b'fast sounds good. I had my usual eggs with Ez. toast today. :) I was going to make tortillas today but may wait until tomorrow. I am tired from y.s.ing and planting flowers. :) I want to have energy so I can enjoy the experience. :)
Wooops,
Hi Candy, I was long winded and missed you. :) Now that you are making tortillas, I may just take the plunge and do them just because. It sounds cool to be making them the same day for some reason. I need to make french rolls too- that way, I can freeze most of them for homemade sloppy joes and healthy sandwiches and such. When I make them for the gang- they pretty much get devoured. :) We have a lazy weekend this weekend. :) Have fun making your tortillas!
Muril that is so funny. I have always planted mine in a pot or a hanging basket so I don't know what they do on the grown. Guess I will learn something from you this year. I sort of doubt mine is a wave even if it said it was, just doesn't look quite right.
Called my friend in Branson and where she was working is still closed, but the company has insurance for employees for this sort of thing so she is getting a check twice a month. She said she bit down on a hard pretzel and did some damage to her teeth and is going to have $6500 worth of work. Poor thing. I sure wish I could see her.
My energy went away on the digging this morning. I don't know what to blame it on, being over weight or being 65. Probably the weight thing.
Think we are going to look for another rose.
later sweet ladies
Dusta, yes, I will keep you informed about my waves! :) I called Mom a while ago and told her what the waves do and she said the petunias may spread and take over the flower bed- it's alright with me- let them. But, I can snip them back if they get an attitude or anything. LOL It should be interesting.
Today is my sister Phyllis's and my DIL Lori's Birthday. Well, I have called them both. I had to leave a message on Lori's answering service... Anyway, Phyllis told me not to remind our sister Bonnie(she hardly ever remembers our B'days-but she did mine this year by some miracle, lol) and Mom. So, I didn't. I know Mom hasn't remembered yet because when I called her - I asked her who she had talked to today and Phyllis was not one of them.LOL Oh well, I promised. :)
I have been a bread maker today! I just got the last pan of french rolls out of the oven. We will have one each with supper as a sandwich for grilled marinated flank steak with onions- and II will probably freeze the rest. I also made a batch of flour tortillas(this time with canola oil- I like the way the coconut oil ones smell better, lol), and my first batch of corn tortillas(had a little learning curve there- but they turned out pretty neat). So, my bread is made for awhile. LOL
The house smells heavenly!
I still need to do some laundry- tomorrow will be an easy peasy reading/crocheting day after church. My work is done for awhile. :)
Debi, I keep forgetting to tell you to take the plunge and buy the coffee/tea maker- sounds pretty neat! You deserve it and you love your coffee and you love your tea- what else can I say? Right! Go for it!
Rebecca, are you ok? :)
:)
Some tornados touching down in rural areas but the closest one is 45 minutes away. Should be an interesting night. Proms in my home town and where I work are still ago. HS's have tornado shelters, but not sure what they will do for After Prom. Tornado watch until 2 am.
I am totally exhausted today! Yes, I do crash! I have been on advil, robitussin, and halls cough drops all day yesterday and today. This afternoon I took over a three hour nap.
Keep safe everyone and I'll keep you posted.
Kris
Kris, that is scary being just 45 minutes away. Stay safe. Glad you got much needed rest today- you so deserve it. (((Get Well Hugs))) Looks like they would reschedule the proms....that doesn't sound safe at all.
Okay, I thought I was finished with my baking and such- DH talked me into baking some coconut macaroon cookies- they are cooling(first pan)- the second pan is in the oven. Whew, baking almost over. Now to only eat one cookie. I thought about putting mini choc. chips in half of them but resisted- they are going to be way too sweet as it is. :( Send self control vibes my way. :)
Have a lovely evening Healthy Ones! Does anyone know if Indiana is in the path of the tornados- wondering if Jill is doing ok?
I thought Iowa was as far north reported, but could change.
My county is having it's fair share of touch downs - playing hop scotch. We are safe.
Heard they wouldn't reschedule prom for guys have rented tux for this weekend only along with transportation (etc.) Hard to rearrange all the plans.
Getting dark and going to be hard to watch for touchdowns. Going to rely on the radar now.
