    New Orleans Praline Pound Cake

1 cup butter, softened to room temperature

    1/2 cup vegetable shortening

1 pound light brown sugar, (press out all the lumps)

    1 cup granulated sugar

    5 eggs

    3 cups sifted all-purpose flour

    1 teaspoon baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1 cup milk

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    1 cup finely minced pecans

Cream the butter and shortening hard until very fluffy; add the brown sugar gradually, creaming all the while until light, then add the granulated sugar the same way. Beat the eggs in, one at a time.

Sift the flour with the baking powder and salt. Combine the milk and vanilla. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients and mixing only enough to blend. Fold in the pecans.

Pour batter into a well-greased-and-floured 10-inch tube pan and bake at 350ºF. For about 1 hour and 15 minutes or until cake pulls from sides of pan and when it is pressed lightly with a finger, the imprint vanishes slowly.

Remove the cake from oven and cool upright in its own pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Loosen cake from sides of pan and around central tube with a thin-bladed spatula, then invert pan on a large round plate and turn cake out.

    Praline Sauce:

    1/3 cup evaporated milk

    2 1/2 Tablespoons brown sugar

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    1 Tablespoon pecans, finely minced

For sauce, bring milk, brown sugar and vanilla to a boil, reduce heat and cook one to one and a half minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, stir in pecans and let cool slightly. To serve, drizzle sauce over pound cake

    Chili-mac Casserole

1 box jiffy corn bread mix

    2 boxes mac n cheese

    2 cans of chili

    1/4 pound of cheddar cheese

Pre-heat oven to 400, make cornbread (it calls for 1 egg and 1/3 cup milk), pour batter into your biggest casserole dish (lightly greased). Mine is about 8x8/9x9 and very deep. Cook mac n cheese and chili while the cornbread is baking. Take the cornbread out, pour in the chili, then add the mac n cheese, and spread the cheddar cheese on top. Throw it back in the oven for about 10 minutes. I like to add half a can of corn to the chili

Got this from bb a while ago and have made it 2x now and love it.  Not a substitute for pizza but is a nice different way of making it.  It's from creid.  She has her changes in () and I'll add mine at bottom.

    Inside Out Pizza

    1 lb ground beef
    1 med onion
1/2 bell pepper (I had the frozen strips of peppers-red, orange and green, and it gave it GREAT flavor!)
1/4 pound pepperoni (I didn't have any and it still tasted great!)
1 7 oz can mushrooms (I used the dehydrated ones from Tone's that you can get at Sam's Club)
1 14 oz jar pizza sauce (Ragu)
500' oven safe pan-(start the hamburger in this pan and just continue with it)
Bring all to a boil and simmer about 10 minutes...Oven to 400'

I browned the hamburger, then added the pizza sauce, and then topped with onion slices, peppers and mushrooms. I did not stir all this up. I then added about 1/2 cup jarred Parmesan cheese, and then the 1 cup of shredded Mozzarella.

    Crust
    1 cup milk
    2 eggs
    1 Tbsp oil
1 cup flour - self rising, or add 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp salt
    1 1/2 cups of Mozzarella
    1/4 cup shredded Parmesan

Sprinkle Mozzarella over meat in oven proof pan...
Then pour crust mixture over it.
Sprinkle more Parmesan over the top.
Put in pre-heated oven and bake 20-25 minutes or until cruswt is golden brown.
Serves 6-8, but maybe only 4 because it's soooo good!

I used 1/2 lb grd turkey one time and Italian turkey sausage another, both excellent.  Used pepperoni and it was great in it, used the can of mushrooms as called for.  Used part skim mozarella and this last time didn't have the parm so used all mozarella plus some Italian cheese mix.  Basically you can add and subtract to your tastes and do alot with this.  Used part whole wheat pastry flour in crust.  Leftovers microwaved well.  Jill

    ½ C. chopped peanuts, optional

Combine dry cake mix, butter, water and egg; mix well.

  • Re: "Let Post Some Recipes We Haven't Done Any In Awhile"

I made this last night, the recipe is from the newest Kraft Food & Family magazine - it was sooo good!  We topped each serving with a little dollop of whipped topping instead of powdered sugar!

    Warm Winter Lemon Cake

1 pkg. yellow cake mix & ingredients to make it (water, oil, eggs)
    2 c. cold milk
    1-1/4 c. water
2 pkgs. instant lemon pudding/pie filling
    1/3 c. granulated sugar
    2 T. powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350º. Prepare cake mix as directed on package; pour into a greased 9x13" baking dish & set aside.

Pour milk and water into a bowl, add dry pudding mixes and granulated sugar and blend well with a wire whisk; pour over cake batter. Place baking dish onto a baking sheet to catch any sauce that might bubble over sides as it bakes.

Bake 55-60 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool at least 20 minutes; sprinkle with powdered sugar, then spoon into serving dishes & serve warm. Store leftovers in the fridge.  16 servings

    Seven layer salad

    first combine

1 cup sour cream 1 cup mayo Hellmans sugar to taste maybe 1 T  taste as you mix to get desired sweetness.  set aside

    layer each of these ingredients in layers starting with;

lettuce iceberg sliced in small bite size pieces

one red onion chopped small pieces

I used cherry or grape tomatoes cut in half a box is great for me

1 pound bacon fried and crumbled

1 bag shredded sharp or mild cheddar cheese

1 box of frozen peas this is the last layer

Pour dressing over the top make sure to cover the top layer

Cover with plastic wrap( after you get mad because it got twisted)

Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours before serving.

Here is the recipe I made for the Brussels sprouts the other nite. I really love the Balsamic glazed ones that NuLyWed posted, but I didn't have all the ingredients, so I used a different one. I did add 3 slices of cooked crumbled up bacon to it because I got it confused with another recipe I was thinking about making.

I can't tell where I got this recipe from. It might be from the board or it might not. I used a 16 oz pkg of Brussels sprouts rather than two 10 oz pkgs. Otherwise, only tweak was the bacon. And I used colby jack cheese rather than cheddar.

    Brussels Sprouts Bake

    1 cup water
2 (10 ounce) packages frozen brussels sprouts (can use cooked fresh)
    2 tablespoons butter
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup (I used light)
    2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (I used 2% reduced fat Colby Jack)
    1/2 cup dry bread crumbs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).  Bring water to boil in a medium saucepan. Place frozen brussels sprouts in the water, and return to boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 6 to 7 minutes, until tender; drain. In a medium bowl, mix brussels sprouts with butter, cream of mushroom soup, eggs, Cheddar cheese, and 1/3 cup bread crumbs. Transfer to a medium baking dish, and top with remaining bread crumbs. Cover, and bake 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until bubbly. Uncover, and continue baking 5 minutes, until lightly browned.

here is one I found on delphi forums. These are not my comments and I have not tried them, but I bet they are yummy.

    Mom’s Chocolate Cookies

(This recipe is over 50 years old and my favorite when I was a child)

    Cream together….

    ½ cup shortening (butter)

    1 cup of brown sugar

     Add…

    1 egg

    Add and beat together…

    2 squares melted chocolate

    ½ cup sour milk

    1 tsp. Vanilla

    Add…

    1½ cups flour

    ¼ tsp. Soda

    ¼ tsp. Salt

After mixing well, bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10-15 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

These are soft cake like cookies and very yummy.  You can’t eat just one!

  • Re: "Let Post Some Recipes We Haven't Done Any In Awhile"

Here is a super bowl type recipe from WW. Uses largely fat free ingredients. Haven't tried it yet, but migh

Layered Bean Dip (WW website). (16 servings, each serving 2 points each, not cointing chips. It would maybe be ok if you ate baked tostitos with it)

    • 16 oz fat-free canned refried beans
    • 3 medium avocado, Hass, finely mashed
    • 1/4 tsp table salt
    • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
    • 1 cup fat-free sour cream
    • 2 Tbsp Old El Paso Fajita Seasoning Mix, or other brand
    • 1/2 cup shredded fat-free cheddar cheese
    • 1 small tomato(es), chopped
    • 2 medium scallion(s), sliced
    • 10 medium olive(s), black, sliced or chopped
    • 2 Tbsp cilantro, fresh, chopped
    • Spread beans evenly over bottom of a 9- X 13-inch glass baking dish or a medium-size glass bowl.

    • In a small bowl, combine avocado, salt and lemon juice. Spread avocado mixture over beans; top with sour cream.

    • Sprinkle fajita seasoning over sour cream layer. Next, layer remaining ingredients on top in order listed.

    • Serve immediately with jicama slices and other fresh vegetables for dipping, or chill until ready to use. Yields about 1/4 cup of dip per serving.
