Good morning and Happy Independence Day!!! Today is also Don's (and his little niece Ava's) birthday :)

To be another scorcher, 99 for the high today, tomorrow and 102 for Friday with no rain in sight. No storms yesterday, unfortunately no rain either. Since it's not humid, the heat really doesn't bother me, but I know it's hard on a lot of people.

We are staying put until at least Friday; feel kinda bad about missing out on swimming & such, but the AC is not the best at the cottage & would likely be miserable otherwise. Will try to get a lot more unpacked, organized and put away, then go up for the weekend which is supposed to be a little cooler (low 90's). Don has requested bbq'd ribs, coleslaw & corn for supper; not sure what we'll make him for dessert yet, either homemade ice cream or a pie.

Was sad to hear yesterday that Andy Griffith had passed away.......we love watching "The Andy Griffith Show" reruns, even Danielle.

Margie, hope you enjoy your cookout & your company....don't work too hard today gf!!

Janice, hope the dog's surgery & recovery goes well; 8 weeks is a long stretch. :(

Kathleen, poor (((Robbie)))....sure hope he's feeling better today!!

Theresa, scary about those vandals; hope they catch them and there were no more incidents last night.

Wishing everyone a safe & Happy 4th...........love & hugs to all!!!

Happy Wednesday * Happy 4th of July!

    Good Morning Junies!

Still a scorcher out there, no relief in sight either, well, down to 80's for the weekend, but we need rain so bad!

Rowen should be coming in a little bit, Ryan wants to go fishing for a couple hours and Ash is working.  We are just going to bbq burgers today. Going to make some potato salad and cut up some melon.

    Enjoy the day my friends!

    Patriotic hugs.......................................

    Good Morning Ladies,

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!! Our weather won't be as bad as originally thought for today. it rained overnight, now it's just cloudy, and we can see peeks of sun. I was a lazy one this morning, sleeping until 7:30. Frank woke me up after making me a cup of coffee. This morning, I'll make egg mcmuffins for breakfast, then I'll get busy making salads for supper. I'm making pasta salad, and a garden salad. We'll cook hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, and I'll also make corn on the cob. Dessert will be the cherry crunch I made yesterday. It will just be Frank and I here, so we're looking forward to a quiet day.

We had fun at the cruise last night, and ended up eating there. There was a small crowd at the cruise, a lot of people had their own plans. They had a cake in celebration of America's birthday.

That is sad about Andy Griffith passing away. I still enjoy watching The Andy Griffith Show.

Thats all for now. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

    HUGS!
    Denise

Good morning.  Happy 4th of July!!  It's gonna be a triple digit day here today, at least the humidity hasn't been too bad.  Yesterday morning we actually got some rain.  Yep, it lasted about 3 minutes.  So once again I am watering part of my garden this morning.

Am going to run out in a bit to put gas in the car and stop and pick up a couple of things I forgot at the grocery store earlier this week.  I've precooked the chicken legs and will grill them with bbq sauce later, we will also have potato salad and veggies with dip.   Dessert is watermelon.

Not sure if we are going to go into town to see the fireworks or not this evening.   Dh has to work tonight so he can't go and if it's gonna be hot I think I may just want to stay home. Not sure what the kids want to do yet.  I'm actually quite surprised they are still having fireworks.  Due to the extreme dryness a lot of places around here have postponed or cancelled their fireworks.

Time for me to turn off the water sprinkler.  Enjoy your day.  Becky

Good Morning Ladies!  Happy 4th of July!  Doesn't really seem like the 4th, being right in the middle of the week.  Unless you have vacation, most people have to work the day before and the day after.  Anyway the boys are sleeping, and I have laundry started and will run to the store shortly for some things.

Just a small picnic today in  the evening.  Grilling steak and baked potato, and corn on the cob.  Will make my noodle salad with mandarin oranges, and I have mac salad and some pasta salad left from the weekend, I may make baked beans.  Want to get about a pound of shrimp for supper.  Dessert.....not quiet sure.  Will pick up a cherry pie ( I know bad June) and I may throw together an angel food cake and have fresh berries with it.

When DH gets up (I'm assuming by noon) will go to the pool as it will be hot.  There they will have hot dogs and burgers and birch beer, so that takes care of lunch.

Sad to see Andy Griffith gone.  I still watch The Andy Griffith show and Matlock.  I really liked him......I always wanted to live in Mayberry.  LOL.

Well, my 2nd load is almost done, and I'm going to get ready to go.  Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday and stay cool!

    Hugs,

    Theresa

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY JUNE FRIENDS!!

Gonna have a wonderful 4th here.  Found out yesterday that my niece that was emanicipated 6 or 7 years ago will be joinging us for the day along with her BF.  She reconnected with the family back in May at the time my two nieces (the one with the baby and my DB and SIL's first natural born child) graduated high school.  She apologized for the way she treated my DB and SIL and ASKED permission to return to the family fold and attend her sisters' graduation.  The one with the baby is actually her biological sister.  SIL said it was one of the most beautiful, emotional moments she has experienced.  We haven't gotten to see her too often, but she is now 21, almost 22, and has to work.  She does struggle, but she realizes (a little late in my opinion), it is hard work living on your own and supporting yourself.  She realizes family and the rules imposed by loving parents isn't such a bad thing after all.

Anyway, there will be about 16 people at DB and SIL's for the cookout.  I am hoping the rain takes a break around 2/3 when we are wanting to do the cookout.  We can use the patio for eating regardless as long as there is no wind blowing the rain into it.  I am not 100% sure what the full menu is, but I know it includes hot dogs and brats, BBQ meat of some kind, baked beans, orange jello with mandarin orange slices and marshmallows, and deviled eggs.  I am guessing somebody will whip up a salad and I am sure there will be desserts. SIL's mom almost always brings some kind of dessert.  I am thinking about running to the store and getting a pound or two of carrots and making carrot sticks. I might grab some sourkraut for my dad and DB.  Don't know if SIL's dad eats it on his brats or dogs, but I know my dad and DB love it.

I am hoping we can see the fireworks from here.  SIL says you can see them fairly well from the front yard at their house, but I don't think Dylan will be able to handle that many people for that long of a stretch.  By the time Joe gets home from work, the good places to view them from will be parked solid.  If we were in our new house, we would have almost front row seating.

Guess I have babbled on long enough.  Have a wonderful and SAFE Fourth my wonderful friends.  Hugs and Prayers for each and every one of you.

Good morning everybody. The 4th is always kind of touchy for me. Loved it up until 1983 when my Dad died on the 4th of July. In 1987, Gregg's Dad died on the 6th and there are several other family members who died right around there too, which makes it a little sad. I was so sorry to hear about Andy Griffith. Add me to the list of his fans. Loved both the Andy Griffith show and Matlock...and I never knew till yesterday that he and Gregg had the same birthday. RIP Andy.

I am really not feeling that great today. It is supposed to rain...very overcast and they are saying 60% chance of rain and cooler. I didn't sleep well last night and woke up with a sinus headache, took sinus meds and now am feeling somewhat queasy, so will probably have to eat some toast and see if it will settle.

Intending to have leftovers for lunch and grill burgers and have with leftover baked beans and a new salad with pasta, veggies, and coleslaw dressing but will use my Mom's dressing recipe instead of buying a bottle of storebought.

That huli huli chicken was really good yesterday. I did change it some. I was pleasantly surprised by how moist it was.

    This is my picture.

I only made half the sauce, subbed ground ginger and garlic powder for the garlic cloves and fresh ginger since that was what I had on hand. Used boneless skinless chicken breast. Used 1 cup of sauce for the marinade, 1/4 c. reserved for basting and would cook 4 minutes per side, baste, turn, cook 4 minutes a side until done, which was about a total of 16 minutes. This is good and moist and goes great with the pineapple rings, long grain and wild rice and green beans I made with it. Definitely a keeper here.

Basically Hawaiian Barbecued Chicken. I halved the sauce and used chicken breasts (boneless skinless)

    Grilled Huli Huli Chicken

    http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Grilled-Huli-Huli-Chicken

1 cup packed brown sugar (used 1/2 c.)
    3/4 cup ketchup (used 6 T.)
    3/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce (used 6 T)
1/3 cup sherry or chicken broth (I didn't use)
2-1/2 teaspoons minced fresh gingerroot (used 1 1/4 t. ground ginger)
1-1/2 teaspoons minced garlic (used 3/4 t. garlic powder)
24 boneless skinless chicken thighs (about 5 pounds) (used 4 large chicken breasts--boneless, skinless--plus 3 filet sized chicken breasts since that was what was in my package)
    Directions
In a small bowl, mix the first six ingredients. Reserve 1-1/3 cups for basting; cover and refrigerate. Divide remaining marinade between two large resealable plastic bags. Add 12 chicken thighs to each; seal bags and turn to coat. Refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight. Drain and discard marinade from chicken. Moisten a paper towel with cooking oil; using long-handled tongs, lightly coat the grill rack. Grill chicken, covered, over medium heat for 6-8 minutes on each side or until no longer pink; baste occasionally with reserved marinade during the last 5 minutes. Yield: 12 servings.

Theresa, that is awful about the vandalism.

Kathleen, hope Robbie feels better soon.

Becky, I was hugely surprised when AZ made fireworks legal. Thought that was one of the dumbest things they ever did considering it is usually dry as a timberbox and even the professional shows usually end up on a fire on the side of the mountain which the ever present firefighters have to put out at the end. Seems like it is just asking for trouble, but what do I know?

Margie, sounds like you did a lot yesterday. Hope you get some rest today.

Want to scrap a few recipes if I can but not sure about that. Still gotta do the parish nurse report and need to do a load of uniforms and a load of dishes and unpack the big suitcase. Got the smaller one unpacked yesterday.

Good morning, (6 minutes left in the morning.)   went out for breakfast then came home and picked berries and did some stuff outside and finally came in, too hot outside.  Going to Daric's parents for cookout tonight, bringing a blackberry no bake cheesecake as Daric's father loves blackberries.  Just trying to stay cool right now.

Something is eating my sweet potato vine leaves.  Not sure what so Ed set a trap and we'll see.  Hope we catch it or scare it away.  Left everything else alone.

Hope you all have  a great day.

    Hello Everyone!

Over-cast and only 65 out right now but will burn off in a bit and be nice, sunny and warm the rest of the day.

Today we are going to my parent's house for a small bbq.  Only the 6 of us, plus my sister Priscilla and her dh are going over.  Everyone else has plans.   We are sort of keeping our fingers crossed that the bbq gets canceled due to Priscilla going into labor.  Her due date is tomorrow and she looks about ready to pop.  Can't wait to hold my newest baby niece!

    Have a wonderful day everyone!

Did dishes, puttered around on Pinterest, found a recipe almost like Dean's for chocolate gravy and made that with some bacon, did dishes....

It is raining outside right now. So nice.... I think I broke my toe so will have to tape it to next one over. Hope it stops hurting so badly since I have to work next 2 days.

    Sheila, praying for you.

Kathleen, would be nice to have a 4th of July baby in the family.

Going to probably start laundry and work on unpacking as soon as I finish my second cup of coffee and finish the Nook book I was trying to finish yesterday.

    Happy 4th GFs!

Was nice to read all your posts. Sounds like you all have great menus, love hamburgers and hotdogs and salads, etc...

I'm having a quiet day, doing laundry and reading. Been taking it easy the last few days, this heat and humidity is wreaking havoc with my lungs. Started prednisone today, so hope I'm better in a few days. Tired of dragging myself around and coughing, my lungs feel full of phlegm, always happens in high humidity. So thankful for A/C house and car!!

My DD is coming home from her trip tomorrow. Can't wait to see her. I dread the time she'll move out for good. Will miss her so much.

Have a great evening of fireworks!!
