Dear Deery, I feel so wonderful just opening your doorway to beauty.  Poems are keys that open locked hearts and spritis with ease.  Thank you so much for the morning blessing, and for the encouragement of just being friends.  It's like getting flowers when you least expect it.  Life leads me in so many directions and lately, there have been some challenges that out weigh me and vex me very much.  They aren't worth naming when I come here and feel this peace and all rightness of the world.  I have to tell you that you are very special and the quiet way you share a poem for all to see is a great thing.  Please....don't stop, I look forward to it.  Your friend, Mary

    I Think of My Mother
    Jessie Cannon Eldridge

I think of my mother in a garden.
She was a farmer's daughter. She knew
The touch of the earth and the way
    Each plant grew.
    Emerald peppers, ruby tomatoes,
Amethyst grapes on the vine ...
These were her jewels, these were her treasures,
    Lovely, fine.
I think of my mother in a garden:
    Easter lilies, lilacs, phlox,
    Blue violets, and portulaca
    By our walks.
I think of my mother in a garden,
Loving it always, turning the sod--
    My mother, farmer's daughter,
    Eve, woman of God.

    Mother's Measuring Cup

    by Vivian Marie Chatman

    A crystal cup for measuring,

    As baking day rolled by,

    And all the sweet ingredients

    For spicy cake or pie

Were kept on Mother's cupboard shelf.

    The cup held generosity

    Accepted with delight

    On lovely little luncheon trays

    And grand desserts at night.

A measure of her brimming cup

    Of eagerness to please,

    Her cup of heartfelt kindness

    Made our sweetest memories.

Wishing all the Tea Ladies a Happy Mother's Day and hoping it's a nice day where you are, as it is here, and turns out to be an enjoyable one.

Erica and I have invited a friend and her mother for dinner today and we're looking forward to sharing the day with them. I need to get in the kitchen to make biscuits for strawberry short cake, but right now Erica is occupying the space I need so I'll stay out of her way for a few more minutes.

I'll take the time to tell you what we did the other day....I didn't know that Erica was checking out the Maltese rescue column on the Internet until she asked me if I wanted to take a ride to a town over an hour away, I asked why?? She read about a family who could no longer keep their male Maltese pup, same age as our female Scarlet, age 2. She's been thinking that Scarlet needed a companion so we are now back to being a 2 Maltese puppy family again. His name is Buddy and he fits in so well - and Scarlet thinks it is great to have someone to tussle with. He is such a sweet dog well trained and likes living with us. He desperately needed grooming and a bath and we were lucky enough to get that taken care of right away - he is two shades whiter than before.

Have a wonderful day - thinking of all of you and wishing you well.

Beneath these fruit-tree boughs that shed

Their snow-white blossoms on my head,

With brightest sunshine round me spread

    Of spring's unclouded weather,

In this sequestered nook, how sweet

    To sit upon my orchard-seat!

And birds and flowers once more to greet,

    My last year's friends together.

    Faith
    John Banister Tabb

In every seed to breathe a flower,
    In every drop of dew
    To reverence a cloistered star
    Within the distant blue;
To wait the promise of the bow,
    Dispite the cloud between,
    Is faith--the fervid evidence
    Of loveliness unseen.

    Side By Side

They lie on the table side by side,
The Holy Bible and the TV guide.
One is well worn and cherished with pride,
Not the Bible ... but the TV guide.

One is used daily to help folks decide,
No, not the Bible ... but the TV guide.
    As the pages are turned, what shall they see;
Oh, what does it matter, just turn on the TV.

Then confusion reigns, they can't all agree,
On what they should watch on the old TV.
So they open the book in which they confide,
No, not the Bible ... but the TV guide.

The Word of God is seldom read,
Maybe a verse as they fall into bed.
Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,
Not from reading the Bible ... from watching TV.

So then back to the table side by side,
Lie the Holy Bible and the TV guide.
No time for prayer, no time for the Word,
The plan of Salvation is seldom heard.
But forgiveness of sin, so full and so free,
is found in the Bible ... not on TV.

Dear Deery, It's a sad statement in this world so full of questions and strife that your last poem is brutally and completely true.  I hope everyone reads and reflects on this and perhaps the future will turn brighter for it.  My best prayers and thoughts are with you, my friend, Mary

    Don't Give Up

    When things go wrong as
    they some times will,
    When the road you're trudging
    Seems all uphill,
    When funds are low
    and debts are high,
    And you want to smile
    but you have to sigh,
    When care is pressing
    you down abit,
    Rest, if you must
    but don't you quit.

    That Inward Tide
    by Donna Miesbach

There is a freedom in the wilderness
Of the ocean and the wave
    That neither halts nor wavers
Nor seeks the surge to stave

    But rather with abandon
    Throws itself upon the shore
And thus, in giving all away,
    It becomes yet more.

    So may that same abandon
    Have its way with me.
May all I have and all I give
Flow from a heart so free

    That never is there less
    But always only more--
The rhythm of that inward tide
    On my eternal shore.
