All my kids are grown and I have 1 granddaughter. The kids are spread far and wide. I have been a subscriber to almost all of the mags from Reiman publications since the 1990's or before. I didn't experiment with food as the boys were too picky. Now 2 of them like to cook. I do have a question for you. How can you use canned fruit other than right out of the jar? Are there recipes that you can put it in and still taste good? I have a friend who gave me peaches and pears and jellies. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Forum Post: lunch for grandchildren

Hi i used to b on the site alot, now i have a question. Have you thought about those kind of modular containers to corral things like rice, beans, pasta, cereal that stack nicely? Sometimes those streamline things and give you more room rather than piling bags or boxes on top of each other.

One more week of school! Wow... a kid in college...I am so not ready for that! Mine will be in 2nd and 4th (both boys). Looking forward to summer. Turns out great. I usually make a glaze for it with some powdered sugar and rootbeer extract. I got a box of cake mix, with "sprinkles" in it, for 99 cents at Aldi the other day. I bought it a few weeks ago for making a simple dessert. Just let it rise in room temp. the first time, then just put it in a freezer bag and freeze it for 1-2 months. The night before you want to make it, just thaw it in the refrig. When it is soft, put it in your pan and let it rise in room temp. You should let it rise in room temp. the second time because it won't rise properly in the refrigerator. Bake like normal! The days have been in the 80's lately, and records are really "setting" because this is so unusual for the midwest at this time of year. We've been turning or air conditioner on during the day because in a mobile home/trailer, the temperature often exceeds about 10 degrees higher than outside, even with windows open and a fan! The walls stay the temperature of outside all the time. In trailers, the sun sure heats up in here, very fast. My husband is a heating/air conditioning programmer, so he knows all about temperatures of buildings/houses and what they should be. We have a ceiling fan, and it sure is good to circulate the air when the air conditioner is running. The air conditioner should be turned on before it gets too hot, so the furnace isn't costing you so much money.

I'll make a shrimp & sausage dinner tonight.

Bye for now!

Mary

Forum Post: Re: Mom2Mom chat for the week of March 5-March 11

I just re-potted in the clean pot, now am cleaning the other pot that it came out of. We usually go out to eat on a night in the weekend to a place called Buffalo Wild Wings (you may have one around- I know they are all over the country). We like their food (bar style) but really enjoy the trivia games. The games are a national game and you can use their "players" or can download an app to use with an iPad/iPod or other device. We have an iPad and iPod, so my husband and I use our devices, but my sons use the players at the place. You can see your name/profile and other rewards online at their website. It just makes it fun to go to places when you play games and eat too.

My sons are 22 and 25, so I really shouldn't call them "boys" anymore, but I see them as "boys". They are paying their own way through college so they don't have to pay off a student loan when they are done. That is a burden!

Mary

Forum Post: Re: Need help!

I have a few quick meals for the crock pot- if that's what you want. We went geocaching this morning, then to stores this afternoon. I went to the library and got 3 books on slow cookers too. The books are great. There are so many cookbooks at the library, and anyone can use them! You can make so many things in a crock pot. There was one method of making a pancake (any recipe for the batter) and it makes in one big "cake"- but all you do is slice the pieces in sizes, and serve like any other pancake- a lot less work! Cornbread works great too. Gotta try!

Mary

Forum Post: Re: Healthy vs. Heavy food needs in house HELP
Perhaps DH could exercise PORTION CONTROL ??? Good luck making that suggestion !
great suggestion MG..... portion control and exercise.......
