We all know that moving is part of a healthy lifestyle - how do you get your exercise in when it's so hot out?

What's your best 'stay cool' tip?

I DO NOT exercise outside....in summer...late spring or fall for that matter...as I live pretty near hell0..hehe

I am lucky as where we live we have a fitness center...and it's free...well we do pay HOA fees monthly that help pay for it...I go on tuesday and thursday and those days I think of as my day off...as all I do is walk the treadmill for 50 minutes and I go at least 3.50 miles, just me and my iPod nano with all and I mean all peppy songs....sunday, wednesday, friday and saturday I use Leslie Sansone and her Walk At Home DVDs....wed and sat I do 4 miles...then sun and fri I do 3 miles, with either hand weights or her stretchy bands...monday is my real day OFF...as the old bod needs a day of not exercising...

and yes we gotta move it...if we eat that is....lol  and I do love to eat...

It's not how you start, it's how you end....so end strong!!

    Walk yourself strong!!

Yeah, well, like Shelly, I live in a climate that is hot most of the year, so exercising outdoors has never been an option... at least not for the past 35 years... I am 76 and slightly handicapped so I have found several options that work for me.

First, when I go to the grocery store to do my regular shopping, holding on to the cart makes walking easier, so I take a full lap around the store before I even begin to shop... Then I go up and down every aisle and before I leave I do a full lap again... The store is air conditioned and has nothing to trip me up, like stones in the road, misaligned sidewalks or barking dogs.

I have a full exercise regime that I follow at home, using the kitchen counter like an exerxise bar, and using the doorway as a hand hold for some exercises...  When a person becomes handicapped they should find alternate methods and venues for getting the move on.

And, I do all my own housecleaning, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping of porches, etc. and that keeps a sweat on my brow... feels good.

Love to ride the open road on my bike. I sometimes ride in the early morning before the heat takes over, but my favorite time is the evening after it cools down. It's a great way to relax after the stresses of the day.
