    Hi there,
Does anyone have any new or different upcoming plans for celebrating Father's Day and/or the Fourth of July this year?

    Thank you,

Oh, my...Father's Day and my birthday are so close together that they often fell on the same day, so I have lots of memories and stories to tell about Father's Day.  And, I am feel very special that I have two dads, one my own father and the second my step-dad, both of whom I loved dearly.  Father's Day was always a joint celebration, which meant that he and I shared a cake, shared the honors at the party and shared a special present that we would give to each other.

One of the best things about Father's Day was that we all went out to a restaurant, a special treat back then, and we could order whatever we wanted from the menu....  for me it was always Fish n Chips, and for my dad (both of them) it was always a big juicy steak.  Once we got back home, there would be a cake on the table, one half of it my birthday cake, the other half my dad's Father's Day cake.  While we were eating cake, we played a game, something we made up,  like this:  "A Father is..." and someone would yell out, "a farmer," or a "a fine man," or "a famous star," anything that began with the letter "F"   We had forest ranger, firefighter, foreigner, Finnish, fun guy, and folk dancer.

As for Fourth of July, we usually stayed home and watched the fireworks from an upstairs balcony...  giving us a view over the waterfront.  We liked to say our own prayers to celerate our nation's liberty. We are a military family and honoring our nation's soldiers is something we do in private, and often. God bless.
