I have just finished reading the Ask the Pros article in the August/Sept 2012 edition. There was a question regarding fresh lettuce and how to store. I grow both Romaine & Red Leaf lettuce in my garden. Luckily I can get several cuttings from my plants. I have found that if you wash the leaves, let them dry, wrap in a slightly damp paper towel, the place in a plastic bag, my lettuce will last several weeks. I have used this method for many years, and it seems to work just great!

Hi, Dian ~ welcome to the Community, and thanks for this helpful tip. Actually, I used to do that, when a friend told me that's what she does, but I think I got lazy, and then totally forgot all about it. And, that method seems to take up more room in my vegetable bin than I can spare. I think men must design refrigerators - women would give us large hyrdrators !

Dian, that is exactly how I do my lettuce and you're right, it does stay fresh for a long time. Great tip. Welcome to the forums.

Thanks, Dian, for that great tip! I have often found myself getting down to half a head or more that starts to get old, and have had a lot of waste, which I don't like. Great idea!
