  • Army song

My husband was in the Army in 1964.  One of their marching songs was "I don't want no more of this Army".  I would love to have the words to this song so my husband could sing it to our grandson.  My e-mail is (tonywallace1@sbcglobal.net)  Thank you!

Is this the "Gee, Mom, I wanna go home" song?

I think there were a few versions of this song (and that you can search for some videos of people singing them on YouTube.com).

This is one version that I think was popular in WWII -- not sure if it's the same one your husband remembers:

    Five o'clock in the morning
and I gaced up on the wall
    Bedbugs and the roaches
were having a game of ball

    Score was six to nothing
    and the bedbugs were ahead
    The roaches hit a homer
    and knocked me outta bed

I don't want no more of this army life
Gee, Mom, I wanna go home
No, I don't want to more of this army life
    Gee, Mom, I wanna go...
Oh boy, do I wanna go...
Gee, Mom, I wanna go home

Oh, boy oh boy, does that ever bring back memories.  I haven't thought of that song in years, but that's all I heard it seems when I was about five years old.  My friends and I would actually march up down the sidewalk with paper hats on our heads and sing that silly ditty.  Music
