Hi, Kmgardner ~ sorry that you are disappointed in the cover, of this cookbook. I don't own one yet (it is on order) but I looked it up here on the site, and the photo clearly shows the year 2013 on the front cover. You could tape a notation on the spine, so be able to find it better, I'm sure.

Hopefully, you will find the contents to be of value to you, and this little inconvenience will soon be overlooked.

Ann, thank you so much for your review. I saw this recipe in TOH and thought it sounded delicious. Just hadn't gotten around to preparing it. I'm so glad to know it turned out good. You served it just as I would have - with ice cream. It is DHs favorite topping - LOL.

If you put the blackberries through a food mill you still have the pulp for jam without the seeds. I stopped jelly when my mother in law threw away my cloth jelly sack because she thought it was a rag. It was a 1930's cloth sugar sack that made beautiful clear jelly and without it no more jelly. I also have a ricer, but I don't care to use it for blackberry jam, the food mill works much better.

Yes you can can lemon curd. The only advantage is if you're using your own lemons. You can make it fresh any time of the year with the fruit always available. It does not have a great shelf life for staying a beautiful colour, has a tendencey to discolour. In this area people make marmalade with sevill oranges so that would be around Christmas time. I like it done with the oranges at this time of year too. Good luck. Janet

Congratulations, and many happy and joyous days ahead for you.

I think I see some good news on the horizon. Many of my daughters' friends are teaching their children to have responsibilities, to set goals, to achieve them, and not to have everything settled in the 30 to 60 minute time-frame of most TV shows, where eveything is solved in no time at all.... The Me Generation, wanting everything NOW, is about to see its demise, I think... and and I hope that will mean a better nation, a better work ethic, a better economy and a better future for our grandchildren's children.

You guys have been so great in giving me the tips I needed to feel comfortable about helping my orchid to be a happy plant. I have been an avid gardener for years, and have always had many house plants inside and on my various porches as well., but this one is my first and only orchid. I am one of those goofy ladies that talk to my plants while I am tending to them, and they all have name (yeah, I know.. kind of childish, but it makes me happy). The orchid's name is "Molly." I have no idea why but when I was given this plant (as a gift), I looked at her, and she looked back and me, and when I said, "Hi, Molly!" the plant actually quivered a bit.

Molly has six blooms now, and that looks like all for now.

You know Beema, I agree. It has to be a very hard time to walk such a difficult line. I myself am one of the very people that one magazine would find it hard to please. I want to see a little down-home cooking, and a little "Food & Wine" cooking and then I of course want to have no more than 7 ingredients and take 20 minutes to get on the table. As my friends would say..."NOT".

It's hard to put so many kinds of things in one magazine and I think they do a pretty good job.

Today, on the last day of April, here in Tampa, we had over five inches of rain in the matter of four hours. So much that most of it ran down the storm sewers. The ground was too dry to allow most of it to seep in. Either feast or famine. Until today, the rainfall total for the year was only about 4.78"... So thankful for the rain. One more month, and we will be in the summer weather pattern with lots of afternoon rains. Just dread the hurricane season, tho.

But, we are under severe draught conditions, and I saw the water cop (yup, that's right) drive by today to see who may have had their sprinklers on.. Steep fines for no following the rules.

You can cancel the remainder of your subscription and get a refund. I did just that after one issue of Taste of Home! (I agree with you - TOH was not a suitable alternative.)
