I am 55 (2008) and retired now for almost two years. I am loving it. I live with my husband David, dog Luke and cat Boots. My husband is still working. I married a younger man -- always liked to tell people that statistics say on average women live six years longer than men. So that's what I looked for. haha I have one daughter, Tiffany (21) who lives in London Ontario. We live in Washago and it is a 3 - 4 hour drive to London depending on the traffic through Toronto. Not nice!! I joined the ladies' group at church and am having a blast there. I am learning to quilt and now they are teaching me to crochet, along with preserving and this and that. I love to garden -- even love to weed -- but I know little about it and will learn as I go -- all I know is that I absolutely love flowers and birds. I also love to cross stitch, and do puzzles -- my favourite being quote acrostic. And reading is also high on my list of things I love to do but finding time is tough. Oh yeah -- I love to ice fish. So with all this that I love to do -- retirement is NEVER boring-- can't imagine why people should think I might be bored.

  • Best-Ever Potato Soup

You'll be surprised at the taste of this rich, cheesy concoction - it's not a typical potato soup. I came up with the recipe after enjoying baked potato soup at one of our favorite restaurants. I added bacon, and we think that makes it even better. -Coleen Morrissey, Sweet Valley, Pennsylvania

  • Confetti Mashed Potatoes

“This makes a beautiful side dish for any meal,” writes LaDonna Reed of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Onion, peppers and cheese add color and flavor to the potatoes.

  • Mexican Shrimp Bisque

“I enjoy both Cajun and Mexican cuisine, and this rich, elegant soup combines the best of both,” says Karen Harris of Castle Rock, Colorado. “I serve it with a crispy green salad and glass of white wine for a simple but very special meal.”

  • Pear Cooler

"My daughter and I had eaten a cold fruit soup while on vacation. When we got home, we tried to create our own version-and wound up with this smoothie," jots Jeri Clayton of Sandy, Utah. "Everyone enjoys it."
