I am a relatively new cook. I didn't learn how to cook anything until after I graduated college. I didn't know how to make boxed macaroni and cheese until I was 21. But once I graduated, I jumped in feet first, determined to succeed in this skill that always bewildered me. Nowadays (about 4 years later), I'm sometimes a great cook, sometimes a horrible cook! I'm always willing to try new recipes and improve upon old ones. I love variety, vegetables, and healthy cooking. And I love to eat!
That would be a dinner party my husband and I threw together in about a week. We planned six plated courses, with lemon sorbet in between. Amuse Bouche, appetizers, ceaser salad, prime rib with sweet potato mash, asparagus with sauce, sauteed mushrooms and onions, and then dessert. We even served the sorbet on chilled plates (yes, we didn't have enough bowls!) with chilled spoons. Our guests were talking about that dinner for weeks afterward!
The one still makes me laugh out loud! In college, my roommate and I never cooked. One night a friend decided to make some box-brownies. He walked over to the stove when I stopped him. "You can't make those. The oven is broken. I keep forgetting to tell the landlord." My friend looks skeptically at me and asks for an explanation. I told him: "Well, we were going to heat up some pizza one night so we turned on the oven. Suddenly, we heard a loud 'POP!' and the light went off. So we turned it off and forgot all about it." He looked at me closely and then asked: "Doesn't that mean the oven is done pre-heating?"
