My wonderful husband of two years and I are nearing retirement age. I keep busy helping him some with his business. Our families live far from south Texas so we travel when we can to see them and our two grandbabies. We both stay very busy in our flower and vegetable gardens. This year we have planted tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, yellow squash, okra and cantaloupe. We have peach, fig, lemon and grapefruit trees.
Wouldn't want to mention it.
The most important things in life are not things.

  • Blond Butterscotch Brownies

Toffee and chocolate dot the golden brown batter of these fudge-like brownies. “I do a lot of cooking for the police officers I work with, and they always line up for these delicious bars,” writes Jennifer Ann Sopko from Battle Creek, Michigan.

  • Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Crazy about chocolate chips? This chewy cookie has plenty, not to mention lots of heart-healthy oatmeal. The gang’ll come back for more and more...so this big batch is perfect. —Diane Neth Menno, South Dakota

  • Cranberry Orange Bread

Cranberry Bread is a natural coming from Oregon, a state famous for its cranberries. And each fall my husband and I go out and scrounge around picking up the walnuts for this delicious bread. A lady was presenting this bread at a food fair when I had the "nerve" to ask her for the recipe. She obliged, and it's been a steady item in our menu ever since. But not just at Thanksgiving—heavens, no! I freeze the berries and have a ready supply all year long.
