At the age of 35, I am finally starting to figure out that life is supposed to be fun and I am taking full advantage of every opportunity! I am the lucky mother of 4 year old twin boys and the wife of a fantastic husband. I teach high school and part-time at a community college, which I love. Cooking, scrapbooking, and jewelry-making is all such a creative outlet for me. I am so refreshed after being creative! I love to bake! Anything that has to do with a mixer, flour, kneading or an oven has my attention! I do have slight wheat/gluten sensitivity which prevents me from eating much of what I make but it doesn't stop me from making and sharing my creations. I usually send my extra sweet treats to my co-worker's or my husband's coworker's which has earned me quite a fan club. That has been really encouraging in my trials in the kitchen. I have been expanding my culinary knowledge by purchasing a variety of cookbooks and just getting into the kitchen and going wild. I also have a husband with a picky palate. I consider that a challenge in the kitchen. I am encouraged to try recipes and foods that will excite him and get him to try new foods. My husband and I both want our boys to have wide palates so we encourage them to eat all foods. I am always looking for new and interesting recipes to try to keep them on their toes!
Having people love the food I make for them is the best triumph there is! Also, I have also learned how to make pie crusts! They are amazing! No more frozen crusts for me!
I was a teenager and my mom was teaching me how to make monkey bread using frozen rolls and some other ingredients. You have to leave them in a bundt pan on the counter to thaw for several hours. We set up the recipe and then went shopping. When we returned, the rolls had exploded out of the pan!! We covered the pan with a paper towel and it blew that off. I have never seen anything like it (and still haven't!)! They flew at least 12 inches out of the pan and had landed on everything that was nearby on the counter: candles, a loaf of bread, the stove. It was a disaster. My sister even filmed it.
Make food traditions with your family. My twins are four and remember food traditions we have established. They can be centered around any day, event, time, or holiday. It is a way to bring family together that everyone can relate to and identify with. We all need a little more family time.
