About Me
No profile added.
I will be 74 on July 20 (the same day that man walked on the moon for the first time!) and was married ALMOST 50 years but lost my husband in 2003 from his wartime service in WWII. I live in a very rural area with my DD who commutes to work 82 mi. each day. I am very busy in community activities - sub on the piano at church, teach Women's Bible Class on Wed. mornings, have been secretary-treasurer for over 20 years for our Landowner's Assoc., am secretary for the local Extension Club, a member of the volunteer Fire Dept. doing traffic control for them, and recently retired from helping with the commodity program for needy people in the area. I also, of necessity, do most of the inside and outside work - an impossible task! Since I grew up doing a boy's work, being the only child on the farm/ranch, rural living is normal for me and very enjoyable. The motto of our County is 2800 people and 28,000 elk; and that is about right too! And, oh yes, I am also an artist and do oils and acrylic paintings of landscape, portraits and still life. I hang in a couple of galleries in Magdalena right now and enter various art shows as I can.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
The lemon meringue pie I made for my new husband in 1954. I had to learn to cook after we were married - but I sure could plow a straight furrow!
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
That same lemon meringue pie! We had rented a small apt. with a small stove. I took such care with that, making it from scratch, and watched it like a hawk until the meringue was 'just right'. In fact, it was gorgeous! BUT, disaster struck as I slid it out of the oven. The grill slid off the side and I can still see that pie in slow motion in my mind's eye. It slid off the side of that grill, turned upside down and landed in the top of the trash can! Horrors! But I did learn to make good meals and my DH did not suffer (much).
My Food For Thought
'There is a time and a season for everything'. Make your 'season' count!
My Interests
Just about any kind of handwork, knitting, crocheting, plastic canvas needlepoint, embroidery, sewing, cooking when it doesn't take a lot of time that I don't have! That is why I like Simple and Delicious! I also like to do intensive gardening in beds but also garden in a regular fashion with things like corn or spreading veggies. I like to can rather than freeze but do both.
