My Biggest Kitchen DisasterMy biggest disaster/disappointment was when I had promised to make meringues for a holiday get-together at my in-laws house. My beautiful old Dormeyer mixer bit the dust on the first attempt at a batch. So I decided to try using the hand held mixer...FOUR dozen eggs later I realized that I was not going to be able to present these...I thought I had done everything right and could not understand why they would begin to peak then liquify. Upon telling my story to my mom, she asked if I was using a new container of cream of tartar, which I knew I had just used the one I had on hand. So the following week I went out, bought a new supply of cream of tartar as well as a decent amount of eggs, and set out to try again. SUCCESS!! They were light and beautiful! Note to self: I always make sure ALL my ingredients are fresh including the spices. Side note: Have a new love affair with spices - the flavors, scents, colors, underlying ambiance each can add to make a dish an all star!
