I love to cook more than I love to eat: always looking for someone to taste my creations. I have been known to start cooking late at night, just for the relaxation. Though I enjoy making such dishes, my tastes range AWAY from chocolate, and other sweets, towards savory & salty: my favorites combo!
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
Cooking a perfect 20lb turkey at age 15. I volunteered to do it for my church, even though I had never actually done it before. I was a nervous wreck for HOURS as I waited anxiously.....but when I overheard two ladies say I couldn't have cooked it because it was way too moist and tasty, it was wirth all the effort@
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
My sister & I had been baking cakes from scratch since we were 8-9 years old, but we never had to substitute an ingredient...until the time we ran out of cocoa powder. I thought: instant coffe will work, right? WRONG!!! It looked right, but it tasted like a dirty ashtray: an entire sheet cake, with frosting, had to be tossed out! I should have asked mom......
My Food For Thought
How many cooking skills are becoming lost arts due to plain old laziness? Howmuch nutrition is lost to the need for speed and prepared "foods", or how much easier would it be to maintain health/weight goals if we used some of the common sense our grandmothers knew by heart? May I never be too lazy to spend the time to make food properly and lovingly.
