About Me
No profile added.
My husband and I are missionaries working in a children's home in Guadalajara, Mexico. There is a five-year-old boy in the home that we are hoping to adopt, and he tells me everyday, "Mami, tu haces todas las comidas Americanas muy bien!" (Mommy, you make every American dish really good!) And, yes, I do a lot of cooking from my Taste of Home books and the tasteofhome.com site.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
My very first time cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving was 2008. I was extremely nervous, partly because we were to have some American company over, but also because we're somewhat highly elevated and didn't know how it would turn out. Well, it was absolutely perfect! Don't tell my mom this, but I think it may have been the best turkey I've ever eaten!!
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
This actually happened the day after Christamas--not even a week ago. We had another American missionary in our home and I was preparing chicken spaghetti. Well, I preheated the oven and got everything ready to go in, but literally screamed when I opened the oven door to put the spaghetti in. I don't know how I missed this when lighting the gas oven, but there were a cookie sheet, a bread pan and a completely melted and all-over-the-oven cutting board!! I had set them aside out of sight until I could clean them "later" and now they were apparently ruined! But I noticed that as the cutting board cooled, it took on a non-stick shape that made for a somewhat easy clean-up, and I had dinner served on time. Praise the Lord!
My Food For Thought
My Little Kitchen God bless my little kitchen I love its every nook And bless me as I do my work Wash pots and pans and cook. And may the meals that I prepare Be seasoned from above With Thy great blessing and Thy grace But most of all Thy love. As we partake our earthly food The table before us spread We'll not forget to thank Thee, Lord Who gives us daily bread. So bless my little kitchen, Lord And those who enter in May they find naught but joy and peace And happiness therein.
