About Me
No profile added.
We have recently re-located from my home state of Montana to the Dallas, TX area. We have three great kids whom we homeschool. We are on a great farm, raising dairy goats, and chickens— and soon we'll once again add turkeys, geese, and possibly ducks. I have quite a "colorful" background, as far as my cooking and baking. Basically, I pretty much make everything from scratch, preferring natural/organic ingredients. Because our one son is working with high-functioning autism, I've done some gf/cf baking as well, from scratch. I am also a strong believer that we are quite literally what we eat. Because of deeply held religious beliefs, this has very deep meaning to me. I have seen a healthy, natural diet quite literally work miracles in our family. I studied in Germany while in college and have developed a real love for authentic German food/cuisine. I use only the German cookbooks I've collected through the years, and I like to consult with the German bakers and delicatessen owners I meet as well as my German friends to verify/clarify what I do so that it can be as authentic as possible. I have gained a reputation for what I do with German cooking/baking. Several years ago the Portland Oregonian FoodDay magazine did a feature on my German Christmas baking. I love international cooking— I‘ve found something interesting in every cuisine I've tried. I am also a lover of the good, old-fashioned basics. I am in the final stages of getting a cookbook published that my great-grandmother put together some thirty years ago of pioneer recipes. Many of these recipes have become staples in our family. I love to sample new things, and try new things out on my family. I've enjoyed the Taste of Home magazine for several years now, and I still look forward to each new issue.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
Having the Oregonian FoodDay magazine do a feature on my German Christmas baking. But, really, every time my family sits down to a meal when I can see by their faces how much they're enjoying what they're eating-- to me, that's a triumph every time!
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
Trying to cook a Sauerbraten a new way, for company. No, it didn't quite cook like it should. Thank heavens the company was "forgiving" and liked rare meat anyway! (I finished cooking it-- the way it needed to be-- later.
My Food For Thought
Nothing beats home made!!
My Interests
Besides having fun with my family and in the kitchen and on our farm, I love music and the mountains.
