I have a wonderful husband, 3 children - 23, 20 and 13 years old, a beautiful, but cranky calico cat and a darling dog I never knew I needed! I like to cook, but it sometimes becomes a daily grind. I LOVE to bake especially yummy desserts! I LOVE BEING A HOMEMAKER, even in this present world that puts little value on that. I strive everyday for our home to be a special haven for my family.
Getting a delicious dinner on the table tonight for my entire family (with a killer headache)!
We always travel to Des Moines for Thanksgiving dinner at my sister's house. She buys the food and I prepare it. We're both happy with this arrangement. She always orders pies from a local restaurant. Last year I convinced her not to order pies because I LOVE to make them. Wednesday night I had everything as ready as it could be for dinner the next day. I put a pecan pie in the oven. The entire extended family had arrived and were playing games, watching TV and talking. The smoke alarm went off! I had not put a drip pan under the pie. The entire oven floor was covered with sugary liquid. It burned and smelled up my sisters entire house. We cooled the oven and cleaned it well after midnight so the oven would be ready for the turkey the next morning. I bet she orders the pies again next year!
Life is too short NOT to stuff a cherry tomato!

  • Almond Biscotti

"I've learned to bake a double batch of these crisp dunking cookies, because one batch goes too fast!" notes Mrs. H. Michaelson of St. Charles, Illinois.

  • Almond Pastry Puffs

This tender, nutty coffee cake is one of my favorite brunch treats. It looks and tastes so special, people won’t believe you made it yourself. It’s good that the recipe makes two!—Betty Claycomb, Alverton, Pennsylvania

  • Apple Pie Pastries
  • Asparagus Fettuccine

Asparagus is in season, so celebrate with this satisfying meatless dish from Genise Krause of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The tender spears pair beautifully with the creamy white sauce, which is tossed with fettuccine right in the skillet.
