My Greatest Cooking TriumphI would say my greatest cooking triumph was catering my oldest daughter's wedding. She had 110 guests and wanted a 'tea party' like atmosphere. I made several types of tea sandwiches- chicken, salmon and vegetable plus mini lemon tarts. We also had fresh fruits, fruit dip, shrimp, fresh vegetables, spinach salad with feta and seafood stuffed tomatoes. I learned that day that puff pastry elevates the standard finger sandwich and thank goodness it is so easy to prep.
My Biggest Kitchen DisasterWho hasn't had kitchen disasters? Scorched cookies, turkey a bit on the dry side, a big dinner where not everything is done at the same time? Recently I was making scones for a visiting Aunt and Uncle. I had not seen them in 30+ years and wanted to make a great impression. I planned everything down to the wire but unfortunately they took a wrong turn en route which delayed them by 45 minutes. I was so busy making sure everything was tidy, setting the tea service out, etc. that I forgot I had the oven on preheat and had the scones sitting on top of the oven, on parchment paper on a stoneware pan. I should mention I have an older stove and when the oven is on for any length of time the back burner gets super hot. Suddenly I heard a very loud pop and ran to the kitchen. There I discovered a broken stone, scorched parchment paper and badly burnt bottoms on the scones which were raw on top. Smoke filled the room then I heard the doorbell ring.........
My Food For ThoughtFood really does bring everyone together. We all have to eat after all so why not make it tasty!
My InterestsBesides cooking and baking I am an avid 'paper' person. If it can be made with paper I am all over it. I am an instructor at Michael's and I make cards, scrapbooks, altered books, etc. I have also dabbled in jewelry making. I even sold some of my necklaces made from dominoes at a local store for several years. Last year I became a member of our local hospital's auxiliary and this year became the correspondence secretary. But my first true love is being in my kitchen. I actually find chopping therapeutic. If life throws me a curveball you will find me in my kitchen chopping away or creating some fabulously decadent dessert.
