Ice cream is "IT" for me. I have several cookbooks on the subject; one of which is compiled of various hand-churned ice cream recipes that I've collected through the years. Ever since I was a little girl, my folks always delighted in making this summer treat, so I continue my parent's tradition for my own children, my grandchildren and my friends. Churning homemade ice cream is like taking a step back in time to a slower and simpler life.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
The "down-home" ice cream socials held at our place in the country. Everyone gets to showcase their specialty and the folks in the community are all invited.
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
I've had my share of disasters. I try to laugh about them and then quickly forget them.
My Food For Thought
When entertaining, prep as much as you can ahead of time so that when your guests arrive, you can spend time with them rather than being in the kitchen. I find that keeping the menu fairly simple also helps a great deal. Don't be bashful though, if someone offers to help you in the kitchen, take them up on it! My advice...always keep a quick-fix appetizer and a easy-fix meal on the pantry shelf for any unexpected company.
