About Me
No profile added.
I am a retired bookkeeper and Christian School teacher from Niceville, FL. I have 11 grandchildren, and another due in August 2011. The youngest is 18 months. The 2 eldest turned 12 this fall. They all live within 3 miles of my home. My days are filled with helping both my daughters homeschool their children, and run MaMa's Errand and Taxi Service. I also help maintain the website for my sister's gift shop named, PERFECT OCCASIONS, which sells gifts, stationery, Gift Baskets, and Gifts To Go. My evenings and weekends are spent going to festivals and fairs or having sleepless slumber parties filled with popcorn, cookies, and cake FOR THE CHILDREN... To say nothing of the milk and sodas! (All AFTER a good HEALTHY homecooked meal, of course!) Both my days and nights are richly blessed. Last year at 60 years old, God blessed me with a new challange... learning to cook and eat GLUTEN, DAIRY, AND SUGAR FREE. It's been NEW, DIFFERENT, and FILLED WITH UP AND DOWNS. So now, though I still occasionally cook Labor Of Loves for my grandchildren, I am learning to cook and eat healthy for myself and for them. And STILL... Both my days and nights are totally blessed.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
Learning to make Mupu Tofu in China. Also being the only one in our family to be able to make my paternal grandmother's original recipe candy, called Mom's Candy.
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
While in China for a year about 15 years ago, I fell in love with a dish called Garlic Shoots & Pork. The sweet lady who cooked this for me wrote down the Chinese name for GARLIC SHOOTS, as I'd never heard of them before where I lived in Florida. But when I returned and took my little piece of paper to ALL the oriental stores in a 50 mile radius no one knew what they were. Nor did they have anything that looked or smelt the same as the garlic shoots I'd eaten in China. As my students there were so fond of saying, What a pity!
My Food For Thought
So continuing daily with one accord..... and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God... Acts:2 46-47. For My thoughts are not your thoughts... nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills, shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off. Isaiah55: 8-13
