About Me
No profile added.
I recently retired after working more than 40 years, 38 of which were in government Human Resources. My husband is retired, as well. We have two sons, one in law school and one recently graduated with a teaching degree. We live in Smithtown, which is on Long Island in Suffolk County, New York. Our property is surrounded by woodlands, with two ponds, and is backed by a 30 acre historic farm. We have indoor pet ferrets, and feed many outdoor "pets" as well, including a few feral cats, raccoons, oppossums, birds, squirrels, chipmunks, etc. We even have a fox that visits on occasion. My family and I love the beach, which is a must for anyone living where we do, surrounded by the ocean and the Long Island Sound. We have a vacation home in upstate New York, on Lake George, which is a nice vacation getaway. We travel, as well, but mostly enjoy our homes, family and friends.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
My holiday and theme parties, as well as the many fundraiser events I've hosted. I love planning the menus, cooking, baking, decorating -- all of it!
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
When I was in my early twenties, I filled a small aluminum pot with water and put it on the stove to bring it to a boil. I then left the kitchen and promptly forgot about it. Quite some time later, when I returned to the kitchen, all that was left of the pot was a hardened piece of aluminum shaped like a big candy kiss. The water had boiled off and the pot had then melted and pooled into that shape! I quickly turned off the red hot stove burner and for many years kept that aluminum "kiss" as a reminder of how a watched pot never boils, but an unwatched one melts all over your stove!
My Food For Thought
Only a life helping others is a life worth living.
