About Me
No profile added.
I have been cooking since I was in high school (I won't say exactly how long ago that was) and grew to love baking as a teenager. Still love to bake, which is a form of therapy for me. I am happy I get to combine my love of baking with my secondary job as a Wilton Method Cake Decorating Instructor. I've taught more than 700 students and I've been at it for over 7 years. My primary job is as a special education aide at an elementary school. I've been married for over 16 years to Dave, an avid bicyclist who hates WI winters. We have a 13 year old son and an 11 year old daughter.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
My greatest triumph is probably a large wedding cake I did a few years ago. I used to work as a baker and decorator for a local coffee house and catering company, and we were commissioned to do a wedding cake. It was a 3 tier cake, frosted with Italian meringue butter cream and decorated with scroll work, augmented by silk flowers arranged around the cake. We also did a few extra table cakes that matched the big cake. I also think I am very adept at choosing recipes for special occasions. I don't often create original recipes, but I'm good at knowing what recipes will be winners and enjoyed by my friends, family, co-workers or guests.
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
I distinctly recall being excited about making a Neapolitan Cheesecake, but I did not notice the direction to turn down the heat on the oven after a certain baking time. The cake was overbaked and had dark edges, but it was still pretty good. I remember that cheesecake, and it motivates me to double check recipe directions carefully!
My Food For Thought
I think that cooking and baking for others is one of the best ways to show people you care about them. Baking in particular always makes me feel better about things....it brings a lot of joy to my life, and I hope that joy is experienced by those that taste my creations.
