I'm a 50-something professor of nursing. Married 33+ years I grew up in the country where I learned to cook, knit, crochet, weed gardens, can food for winter, watch (feed) the birds, get the eggs warm from the coop and all the usual things. Was in 4-H and the Grange. But with moving around, pursuing education/career and all the life "stuff" I sort of lost touch. Now that the busy-ness of earlier years has settled a bit and I'm back in my home state, I'm trying to re-learn those earlier skills/interests.
A complete French meal from beginning to end - using recipes I'd never tried before - I invited friends to this "guinea-pig" dinner (informing them that they were the "guinea-pigs") and it was a terrific success
We were living out West in mountains - nobody told me that my family's sea level bread recipe needed to be adjusted for altitude - it was beautiful but very, very big!
With a loved one being very sick for the last couple of years, friends kept saying "You've got to take care of yourself" but I couldn't quite figure out what they were talking about. So I asked my beloved sister-in-law what this meant. Her wise response has become my goal. She said "you need to take as good care of yourself, give yourself as much love and kindness as you give others."
