My earliest memories are all centered around cooking with one family member or another. I come from a big family, and EVERYONE has or had a specialty. My mom was the "pie lady" in the family, one aunt was a bread artist, another made the most amazing cakes, a third was talented in creating new recipes, especially stews and casseroles. My dad and uncles were great cooks, too, and shared their love of barbecuing, cooking wild game, and growing fruits and vegetables with me from an early age. I passed the torch on to my three kids as soon as they were old enough to use a potato masher and stir with a wooden spoon. My eldest daughter won ribbons for baked goods and produce at our county fair at 10 years old, and my son and younger daughter love entering produce they've grown.
