My Greatest Cooking TriumphEach new desert I bake is a triumph. I love coming up with new cake ideas. Last year, I used a bundt pan to make a cake in the shape of a lions head. The hole in the center was his roaring mouth complete with candy corn teeth. One of my other boys had an Indiana Jones hat shaped cake with a chocolate licorice whip. I used a sheet cake and a bread loaf pan. I cut the cake into the shape of the hat.
My Biggest Kitchen DisasterIt is a toss up between two. I made peanut brittle one year before I had children and this recipe called for cashews which of course are more expensive. The stuff thickened so quick that I could not spread it. I almost had to pitch the pans because I couldn't remove the brittle. The other one was with the help of my Husband. My First Christmas and I invited my Mom. I wanted all the cookies baked and the apartment vacuumed. I had so much to do so Brad offered to help with the Butter cookies. I had made all the others. He read my recipe and thought that cream of tartar was tartar sauce which I had just bought that week to serve with fish sticks. After he made the dough and put it in the fridge to chill, I checked on it. It didn't look right. At dinner Brad asked why my recipe calls for tartar sauce. My mom and I stared at him and I said, "So that was why the dough had little green chips in it." It was the pickle relish in the tartar sauce. So the dough had to be pitched but we had a great Holiday anyway. Brad hasn't helped me since and it is ok by me!!!!
My Food For ThoughtCooking for loved ones is a great gift to can give to ones family and their smiling faces and full tummies is their gift to me.
