My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
When I was first learning to cook my mother and father went a couple of miles away to have coffee. While they were gone I decided to make a homemade banana bread for a surprise. I measured and stirred so carefully so they would never eat another banana bread again without thinking of mine. By the time the loaf was almost done baking the whole house smelled sooooo good! My brothers were bugging me to hurry up and get it out of the oven because it smelled so good. Mom and Dad finally got home and when they walked in the house they said they could smell bananas clear out on the road. I cut the first piece very methodically and gave it to my dad with some butter. I watched him take the first warm bite expecting to see sheer bliss but suddenly his face scrunched up like he had eaten a lemon instead of bread. When I was measuring the ingredients out I misread the list and had put in 1/2 cup of salt instead of 1/2 teaspoon of salt! Dad promptly threw that beautiful loaf of bread outside by the back door for the dogs to eat but they just looked at it. It was the middle of winter and when spring came that loaf of bread was still laying by the back door. Oh well.
