I am recently retired, and moved from our home town to a beautiful part of the country the "Black Hills". Although missing our kids and grandkids, we love the busy life of retirement. Yes, busy. We keep busy with many things to do. We do a lot of entertaining, which always me to try new recipes and test them out on new unexpected prospects. I am a grandmother of five grandchildren, I have three children of course all grown. I am a young grandma of 50(ish) and young at heart. Love spending time with my grandchildren. My granddaughters love to help me in the kitchen. We enjoy making playdoe together.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
My daughters wedding. She wanted a very elegant and formal wedding. So we gave it to her on a shoestring buget, and it turned out fantastic. I made and decorated all the cakes. We had six different flavors, and individual cakes on each table along with the bride and groom cakes. Along with family and friend to help, we offered a 14' buffet table full of many different foods, and even an ice sculpture that I made myself. I got to make up a menu and prepare a lot of the food. As if I were a fancy restuarant coordinator. It was great, I loved it but won't want to do it everyday. My daughter said it was the best party you ever put on Mom, and that was my blessing, and greatest triumph.
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
At a very young age I made jello that was so rubbery that it bounced like a ball. Another time our camping group decided to roast a whole hog. This was a group project. After a lot of research on how to do this, we dug a really deep hole, and followed all the instructions. We rubbed this hog down with a dry rub that I had made. After a great deal of hard work from us all. We covered the hole, sat back watched and waited and waited. After many, many hours according to the instructions we dug up the hog, to find it still raw. We had forgot to put in breather holes so the fire could breath, so we had put out the fire when we burried the hog. What a disappointment.
My Food For Thought
I love to cook, I love to share recipes. It alway seems that food is the focal point of all gatherings no matter how large or small the group or event or holiday. And the kitchen or grill is the place to be.
