My Greatest Cooking Triumph1) I think it is learning the art of both hot and cold smoking of meats and cheeses. If it is smoked I will eat it, except for fish. I use exclusively Red or Live Oak for all my smoking.
2) When a young Marine pushed his empty plate away and said "That was delicious. Your cooking reminds me of my Grandmother's cooking." I think that is the greatest compliment anyone can get when it comes to their cooking abilities.
My Biggest Kitchen DisasterMANY! One that always comes to mind is the time I forgot to put slits in a yam before putting it in the microwave. It exploded and the mess was incredible. You know the little vent holes that let the light from the bulb shine through..........
Or the time I fixed baked chicken breasts using Chinese 5 spice. It turned out bright pink so in order to get the kids (5 and 8) to eat it I told them it was "Valentine Chicken." It tasted so horribly strong of licorice that after one bite the four of us couldn't eat it. The dogs and cats had a wonderful meal that night.
My Food For ThoughtYou deserve out of life what you are willing too put up with.
My InterestsCooking, gardening (mainly vegetables and fruits), doing volunteer work for our local ASO, hiking and beach combing in the Big Sur area.
