My Greatest Cooking TriumphMy greatest cooking triumph would be having my kids learn to cook and bake. On holidays we plan a menu and they decide what they will be responsible for. Several new recipes have been tried that way. The kids like to page through the old issues of Taste of Home.
Most recently my grandson helps in holiday baking. This past Thanksgiving he wanted to make so many different pies we decided to make mini’s. That enabled us to enjoy pumpkin, sweet potato, pecan, cherry and cranberry.
My Biggest Kitchen DisasterOn Thanksgiving a few years back, I had prepped the turkey and set it to roast in the oven. I joined my kids outside to hang Christmas lights (a yearly tradition on Thanksgiving.) I went to baste the turkey after a few hours only to discover the oven was NOT on! Needless to say, we ate a late dinner.
My Food For Thought My best advice is enjoy your time in the kitchen. Also, don’t wait for the ‘right time,’ to cook with kids. You will blink and they’ll be grown. There is always something they can help with. My kids started tearing lettuce into a bowl around the age of 2.
When it comes time for parties, I plan ahead. My largest party was my daughter's baby shower for 100 guests. Make a menu, and see how much can be prepared days ahead.
My InterestsBesides cooking and baking I enjoy: gardening, photography, volunteering, writing, sewing, up-cycle projects. I've been a Michigan Master Gardener for five years now, and most recently was elected president of the Michigan Master Gardener Association for our county. It's great socializing with people that share your same interests.
