About Me
No profile added.
I am retired, and decided I'd use some of my time making home-cooked meals for my husband and I. We live in the country, have a vegetable garden every year, and raise chickens for the farm fresh eggs. That started a health kick, and I'm trying to replace as much store bought foods with home cooked foods, using fresh ingredients, and avoiding as many additives as possible. We are strong Christians, and love the Lord.
My Greatest Cooking Triumph
I have tried so many recipes from tasteofhome.com, I don't know which would be my greatest triumph. I'm going to say Spinach Cheese Pie Olga, from the Scarsdale diet. 30 years ago, my husband and I went on it, and I made that recipe. Not a year or so ago he asked me if I knew what we haven't had in a long time. I immediately said Spinach Cheese Pie Olga, and that's exactly what he was going to say. A second would be French Onion Soup that my husband loves - he said it's the best he's ever tasted ... and we've been to some fine restaurants that serve it!!
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
When we first moved to Colorado from California, I wanted to make a very special cake to take to friends. I spent at least $15.00 on ingredients. However, one should also read the directions completely - we were now at 8,000' I put it all together (we were living in an RV) and put it in the oven. It smelled heavenly. Then it began smelling smokey. It was in a bundt pan and the batter began to run over the sides, like Mt. St. Helen, it filled the RV with smoke, a sweet, unpleasant smoke, it got in my eyes when I tried to get the pan out of the oven. It made a major mess inside the oven and the RV smelled smokey for days. I bought a cake for the event.
