My Greatest Cooking Triumph
I once prepared an entire Thanksgiving dinner using only the microwave. What made me so extraordinarily proud about it was that the entree was duck. I was young and really didn't know what I was getting myself into by choosing duck as the main course. But by following the recipe exactly, it turned out superb. I have long ago lost all of the recipes for that dinner, but I still remember it being a meal loaded with pleasure all around.
My Biggest Kitchen Disaster
My first pot roast was a total wipe-out. Again, I was young and newly married and was going by the seat of my pants...no recipe. I thought I could do it from having watched my aunt cook so many pot roasts when I was growing up. I put it in the oven and did nothing right. Duh...I soon found that it was supposed to be a POT roast, not an oven roast. After 42 years, I can't prepare a pot roast without remembering that total mess-up.
