Competitive baking at the Fair. I highest honor I have accomplished was reserve Grand Champion at the county fair. Champion in candy division at the state fair.
My first yeast bread I attempted was whole wheat and it looked and tasted like a brick. I threw it into the front lawn for the birds to eat and they swarmed down into a huge group. The first pecked at it and then they flew away just as quickly as they had landed the bread intact. They couldn't even eat it! Practice makes perfect though, the reserve champion award I received was for yeast Cinnamon Rolls.
Never trust a skinny cook! (Especially a baker!)
